ADDING A SURE GRIP

It’s a column shift automatic. Why won’t it work?
For one thing, B and C body Torqueflites are longer than A body ones. Second, the 65's were cable shifted and not linkage shifted. The difference is inside of the transmission and I don't believe they can be modified to work.

No reason he can't make a cable shift work, easily at that, but as Mike points out it's the transmission tailshaft length that's gonna suck..

Mike,
Will a shortened driveshaft fix the tranny length issue?

Not taken as a smart *** answer at all. I’m always looking for honest opinions when I ask questions! Next question is where to get the sure grip bits?
Roy (@SGBARRACUDA) usually has some sure grip stuff and he's in the Tampa area too. Normally. Right now, he's in Alabama on a huntin trip, so he may or may not respond. I hope he gets a bigun. lol

Looks like there is/was a conversion kit available from here….

Look at the '65 and you'll see 2 cables. One is for park and one is for shifting gears. The cable goes up to the steering column shifter.

On the '67, shifting is done by mechanical linkage.

The two aren't compactable in the least.

Yea, I suppose you could find the proper shifter (like the push buttons or a floor shifter from a '65 car) but the easiest and best way is to find the right trans and use the existing shifter. You don't want to screw around with the cable... Adjusting it is not a lot of fun and if you have to replace the cables, they aren't cheap.

I gotcha. I’ll give AA Trans a call and see what that conversion kit is about. Couple posts on the B-Body forum regarding using it. That doesn’t help with tranny size diff of course.

I would sell that transmission to someone that could use it and get the right one for your car.

Well heck, if
this Tranny won’t work I’m thinking I may as well go for an A833. With the Dart totally stripped down for body work I’m thinking now would be the time. A bench seat 4 speed. I’m liking it!

Make sure you get the right one. Is your car a stick now? If not there's a lot of parts to install and everything needs to be close to perfect. May be some welding and fabrication.

Although not worth any more than a "regular" 727, there is a demand from the 65 and older crowd.
