How do I release the brake pushrod from the master cylinder piston? ('68 Dart manual brakes).

I had to take a hacksaw and cut the old cylinder piston assembly parallel with the pushrod. Took about 10 minutes of sawing to get it out.

Stick it back in the master cylinder hook the master to the firewall, and the pedal up. Then pull the brake pedal back towards the drivers seat to pop the rod out.

Or since its already out, If your not keeping the master cylinder, you can put the piston in a vise, heat it up with a propane torch at the end where the rod attaches. Put on your welding gloves and pull the rod out once you smell burning rubber from the retainer.

Held in with a rubber short sleeve in a enlarge area at the bottom of the piston. So you can’t pull the brake pedal to far back and the rod fall out of the piston.
