What's the dimension between the 2x10's that the pan fits into? I don't have a pan handy and would like to have the dolly built for the engine when I get it home. Thanks.

I just made mine over the weekend all out of 2x10s even the base. The only thing I did differently was to make it fit over my engine stand... utilizing its frame and wheels saving some space in the garage.
Awesome job! That is on my to do list for sure. Great idea with it fitting on engine stand!

The wood engine dollies are great! I built 3 of them which are all in use.
One "Note" make sure you have clearance on the dolly wheels turning 360 degrees. Mounting holes location may interfere with 360 rotation.

I got this mamma-jamma with one of the early Hemis I bought in Oklahoma. It was bolted to a 354 that ran an irrigation pump.
It was just a skid but I welded on wheels to let it move easier. This will be the base of my engine run-in stand.

Good thing about a project like this is it can be made from repurposed materials. I prefer steel and it's surprising what what you can get for free or very cheap. Old shelves or pallets go a long way with a little elbow grease.
pro tip, don't ever buy your steel where you buy your lumber
one can still find some angle iron laying about....even an old bed rail can be utilized and often had for low cost. When I installed lights beneath my lift for when I need to do other projects and one is stored above when lifted and blocking light, two sets of bed rails to the rescue....with lights, just a bit of time and less than 75.00 including the LED lights as shown.
I used a combination of bed rails and a pair of matching drilled angle iron I have had stored for 30 years...(never throw metal away) when making this engine cradle. The battery, console and gas tank portions are bed rail.

Just finished mine!! In case anybody wants to know I spaced my 2x10s 8.5" apart and fit the pan almost perfectly for my 01 magnum 360.
