Have you looked into the Quick Jack? I had a Rotary, portable mid-rise, that worked great but never allowed for acces to the middle of the underside of a vehicle. The Quick Jack is what I am looking at. Also considered the Max Jack.

I have a Quick Jack. It's very well made and allows me to do anything I need to do under car. I'm glad I bought it.

The jackstands are just extra insurance ! They are not even touching.
