I have a 1971 Scamp, with a 440, 727 Tran and Hooker Pro Comp fender well headers. I am converting it to a 833 and TTI under chassis headers. What is your thoughts on installing it from underneath instead of from the top? Do you think it would be possible to install the engine, headers and the tranny together from underneath?

Yes- that’s how I’d do it. Cuts down on the possible scratches too! Cover all sharp corners with tape or foam.

Small block, big block, they all go in the same. There's more clearance with headers than upswung HP manifolds..

The 440 will fit just fine from underneath. You may have to leave the headers loose for the install though- feed them up in there with the engine, then bolt them up solid once the engine is home.

I've always built my junk, with the engine and Transmission married, slipping the headers in, towards the end. Haven't had the privilege of doing a body lift and dropping on the k, though. Definitely jacked my paint in a few spots on the Duster last year

That's how I would recommend it, too. I'm messin with slant sixes right now and they come out and go in easy from the top. Now, if I had a show quality paint job, I might do it from underneath.

Being a big block, removal and installation from underneath is all I would recommend. Do it slowly, like an inch at the time. Walk around and look at everything. Don't get in a hurry and you'll be fine.

Thanks, I appreciate the info.
