88 D100 heat riser

Mine is rattling. Want to weld it open. Not sure which way that is. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Don't know for sure what direction to open them but, it's probably closed when the engine is cold, unless it's stuck in the open position. I remember when I was a kid, I would hold them open with a good spring when they rattled. I believe they have a re-build kit for them but you might have to remove the manifold to do it.
