TTI headers with W2 heads on a 416 WANT TO RETAIN COLUMN SHIFTER

Help,
TTI says I cannot retain my column shifter on my 71 swinger if using TTI headers with W2 heads. I refuse to believe no one has done a modification beside beating the tube to get the linkage to work? Anyone done this or similar with linkage issues and headers. I'm thinking I can modify the linkage but don't know if the geometry will allow to work properly.
I'm building a complete sleeper out of a /6 survivor car and want to keep the bench seat column shifter.
