I have a QA1 k-member and a 7 quart oil pan. It sits about 2 inches below the k-member. I have bumped the pan and luckily have not broken it. It is about 3-4 inches off the ground. The k-member has some mounts on the sides of it that are not being used. I figured that the mounts would be a great place to locate a skid plate. Has anyone done that? Pics?

I remember looking for a skid plate, a couple years ago. Somebody made a factory looking stamped steel, which looled like the factory b-body Hemi skid plate, not that angular reverse-hood-scoop looking thing. It looks way better, but I don't know if it is "deep enough" to protect your pan situation.

I'm going to weld one to my cross member once I install the 416 in my bracket car, just in case it gets hard on the bars & comes down. My Milodon 8 qt pan hangs a bit low & I don't want to take a chance of caving it into the crankshaft.

I welded one up out of 5/16" steel. The steel was about $20 and they plasma cut the pieces for free at the fab shop.

that will either shove whatever you hit out of the way, or launch you over it

Oh, it's beefy. I wanted 1/4" but they already had 5/16" set up on the table. I've touched a couple of dips at 30mph and it banged me over them lol.

Ouch!!! I hope to have mine put together this week. I will post pics. The reason I started this thread was that while doing some work on my car I loosened the motor mount and jacked up one side to remove the header. It did not go back into place and I used a long bar to pop it back in. When I did it landed on the pan on a jack and ended up denting the pan and cracking the oil pickup tube. NO OIL PRESSURE. I had to pull the pan to replace the pickup. I figured that if I could do that to the pick up with the car not moving, what could happen at 30, 40, 50 mph or more?

My pickup tube hit a rod bolt and was knocking so i took a screwdriver and tapped around the outside to relieve the center to get it home. The tube had a little nic in it nothing to be worried about.

I finally got around to finishing my skid plate. Now I only have 4 inches of ground clearance, 1/2 inch less.
