Working on a power steering pump install for a 72 Duster 340 non ac … does the pump pulley align with outside or inside crankshaft pulley? If it’s the inside, I must have the wrong pump? If it’s the outside, then the alternator must fit the inside? Is there anything special for the 340 non ac peaces,.. pulleys, brackets etc,..?

Yes, the non a/c brackets and pulleys are different. Also different from 69 back with the cast iron water pump and 70 up with the aluminum w/p. Pump lines up with the outer pulley. Alt belt runs the fan and inside pulley. Kim

Sorry about the duplicates… my first shot at uploading pics…only two pictures…

Ordered from summit last week … double pulley on bottom and single on water pump .. that’s what I was told is needed for a power steering non AC Duster? It does look as if the crank pulley was three pullies, the outside one might align with PS pump? I requested the double pulley from summit on the crank because thats what I read on this forum sometime back?

Pics of mine. Even though I have a double w/p pulley u can see how everything is supposed to line up. I also have a 3 groove on the crank. I am also showing the pulleys u need. Kim

. The pulleys have the numbers on them. Their what u need. Kim

For one thing you don’t have a complete PS bracket set up. There is another triangular plate with 3 bolt holes that goes right behind the outer bracket. Als there is a spacer that goes on that lower bolt between the two outer brackets and the rear bracket. The Altenator goes on the inner groove and around the water pump pulley. The PS belt goes on the outer groove and runs from the crank pulley to the PS pump only.

Thanks for the replies….pretty sure I have the bracket peaces that were mentioned..have several parts that I've put on/took off many times over the last two weeks(frustrating!).. could be I have them in my spare parts box, lol.. I will check again…probably would’ve been better off switching to a manual steering..

No once you figure it out, PS is a wonderful thing.

Did you mean the PS belt goes on the inside groove? Both belts can’t run on same groove or am I reading it wrong?
