I’m regular seeing people ask for the vin numbers, just wondering if there has ever actually been a match?

I just assume 340’s would only have been pulled after a car was already totalled.

Tried to track mine down with no luck so far. Fender tag as well. No luck. I found the previous owners number courtesy of the Nebraska registered sex offender site.

Not always. I rebuilt a 72 motor for my stepson's 73 Duster 340, and kept the 73 block for myself. Still have it. (His Duster was sold in the early nineties.)

Now the 72 motor came out of a wrecked 72 Charger, and the 71 motor that's in my 65 Barracuda was pulled out of Mom's 71 Duster 340 after my brother rolled it (he was uninjured).

Not always, my '69 lost the original engine/trans around '74 when it was parted out to a bare shell. Sadly it's engine went into Demon and got scattered/windowed.

Well I found my Challenger’s original 383 through a kijiji ad! So I think a dedicated site like this has a hope of reuniting a pair.

Even though I have not located my original engine, with over 50k members here, this is one of your best bets especially with all these mopar brothers here. Even though we all might not see eye to eye all the time and we may even not get along all the time, were all mopar brothers and I can’t see anyone of them denying another one numbers matching parts,at least without a price or least an apology. I won’t stop looking or trusting these guys here.

My neighbour pulled a 340 out of a mint 70 4 speed swinger, slapped it into a Cordoba and sold the car with a 318 3 speed......I got the 4 speed.:realcrazy:

Yes two so far. 340's 68 GTS and a 71 Duster. No others I have left found a home yet. One 383 for a 70 RR. But most important I had the dash from a 69 Super bee with the vin for a original owners sold race car.

Rear seat for a 68 Hemi RR with the broadcast sheet. I new the original owner and the man that bought it/ stole it from his wife when he died. I destroyed it in front of a friend of his that came and asked me for it. It came with my Demon years after he bought the car when I bought the Demon. Both cars were built at the same shop and th seat was with the Demon parts

Right, people would remove the original 340 for a rebuilt 340.

That is the situation with my car. The original motor was put on a stand and set in the corner. I pulled the 340 that was put in the car back in 1985 and sold it a few years ago.... So yep, this can happen....

My 71 Dart came with a /6 but now sports a 340. It could very well be someone's lost motor but when I tried to get the numbers I couldn't make them out since the block has been painted.

I will occasionally look for my original. It was removed in the San Jose area for an unknown reason around 1980. I now have a VERY low mile '68 340 to put back in it. I got it with a '73 short block that I replaced with a rebuilt 1970 short block in the early 1990s.
