Big Inch Small Block

he has been 5.07 i am pretty sure, maybe quicker
Yea he’s certainly not slowing down. I stood and looked at the engine at the nitro revival event for like 20 minutes. The car is awesome.

The acquaintance of mine with the around 950 hp small block is a Ritter block with W8 or 9 heads don't remember exactly , haven't seen him in a few months but it is potent and he hasn't even ran it all out yet ... I agree Shiloh and Brett Miller power are impressive!

I feel inadequate. My lowly deal is a 4.06 bore R3 block with a 4.25 crank = 440 inches. 10.5:1 pump gas street Indy head combo. 650-ish HP.

Acquaintance of mine ran a 468 in his 71 demon for several years. Cover car on Mopar Muscle, street driven nine second n/a car. Also had a later build Valiant on the cover too.
He built a 502, (yes, small block) but it was just too over the top, internals were too light, it didn't last long. While it was running, it made power!

Sounds like Ron Silva....

I see someone mentioned him earlier. I liked hanging with Ron and Bryan Sloan at the track when I was there.

Another thing to bear in mind when going this much bigger [ twice the capacity of a 340 ] is that the cyl heads available were never designed to feed so many cubes & engine output could be limited because of limited air flow.
did i miss the part where they mentioned 680 cubic inches (twice the capacity of a 340)?

If your making 600 plus horse power it takes double the air flow of a stock 340 to do it?

A 426 SB easily reaches 600hp.
There is a guy on YouTube who made 600 hp with a 318. I'll most likely go that route. The bare blocks are very affordable and I'd like to do some of the engine building myself, going slow of course (I've never built an engine before).

Big cubic inches in itself has proven to be not the winning combo as look at what the NMCA N/A small tire guys run and they aren't maxed out cubic inch engines
Correct. Top Fuelers are limited to 500 cu. in.s.

600 hp is very conservative, my 9.5 to 1 comp. 4 inch stroke 408 , R3 block, Indy 360-1 heads, 600 lift mechanical cam made 539 hp / 502 tq , very mild to run pump gas, ran 10.69 in my 3,150 lb. Dart it ran good until the crank cracked luckily nothing else got hurt, it has the potential for tons more power with a roller cam , more compression , and some head porting. There is an acquaintance of mine that has a small block Mopar that is around 950 hp.

Crank brand ?

Tbh, I probably wont run 600 hp on the street. I'm getting too old and I would just get into trouble with it, . . . maybe. I don't know. My car will most likely weigh less than 2,400. lbs. when I'm through lightening it up. It is around 2,700 right now, as it sits and it has no 'glass or aluminum or any other weight-saving parts on it. I'll also replace the tank with a cell and the glass in the car might get removed and replaced with plexi. I'm going with fiberglass hood, fenders, trunk lid and doors. I can possibly get it below 2,400. Hell, I'm still figuring out what I will finally do with it. Lots of cubes and power still sounds like FUN!

Mygasser,
You are correct [ post #60 ]. Don't know what I was thinking maybe 240, not 340.

Thank you

And I am obviously not happy about it after only about 200 runs.. luckily it only took out the front main bearing and nothing else even the rod bearing by the crack still looked good.. Thank goodness it didn't hurt the precious " R " block... I haven't decided what I am going to do fix it, part it out or sell whole.

I'm curious how you found the cracked crank before it disassembled itself. Was it a main bearing knocking noise, or loss of oil pressure, or something else.?

I was at an Index race in Pa. Labor Day Weekend after being 008 and 012 on the pro tree ( figures ! ) second time shot I heard a vibration and lost oil pressure , not knowing what it was I just parked it, brought it home took it out and dropped the pan starting in the rear I started checking bearings they all looked good ( mains and rod ) until I got to the front and found the bad bearing then I saw the crack .. at least the bearing didn't weld itself to the crank or block it came right out. I knew something wasn't right when I could wiggle the balancer around. My " Mopar Mentor " says the vibration from the cracked crank is what took out the bearing.

If you put it back together, I would recommend a molnar crank, or at least a scat.
Eagle doesn't have a great reputation in my circles, but I guess that is a little late, hunh?
All in all, It could have been a lot worse!

AT least you noticed it and parked it before tearing up more expensive parts.

You both are so right !!! if I would have hurt the "R ' block I would have been real upset!!! as I said I am still looking at what to do with the motor, I already have another motor in the car I just had done I dont know if I can afford the luxury of having two motors so the 408 might go up for sale. I have a lot of $ tied up in it... R 3 block, Indy 360-1 heads and intake etc.
