Got the Accurate dual exhaust kit with chrome tips (car has a 68 rear valence with dual cutouts). I have altered the 67 gas tank strap (probably need to do more), and something is still not quite right. When I put the tail pipe in place, it has very tight clearances and once it’s past the diff, it is at least 4” too low at the valence.

The kit all looks good, so I figure it must be me… and I am stumped.

Does anyone have any photos of the Accurate dual exhaust under a 67 Barracuda you could post? I’m hoping a good visual would help.

Thanks in advance.

Photos - just what I am looking for. Here is what I have. Nothing exotic

Here is the exhaust pipe, crossing diff, snaking past the shock and gas tank.

And the modified gas strap bolt, tail pipe out the back, and where the tip fits

As much as I hate the idea, I can drop the gas tank and move it about 3/4” to the left side, allowing more modification to the strap bolt, or drill a hole and move it inside the frame rail.

Everything I brainstorm still has the tailpipe slightly off center and several inches too low.

Rob it looks like the muffler is way too low but I can't see why. Any images of the hanger assembly bracket on the car?

Does Tom at Accurate make them for this car with the side biased gas tank like the 67 has?

The muffler bracket is as high as it goes. Top of muffler is about 3/4” from the floorboard.

Talking with the folks at Accurate, ‘68 duals fit on a ‘68 once you “modify” the hanger.

Hanger bracket, from the back and side. It is as high as it goes.

You can also see the muffler to floorboard.

Just looking at the pix, it looks to me like your hanger is too long. I would disconnect the hanger, then manually lift the muffler with a hydraulic jack or however and see if by doing so you can get the tailpipe where it needs to go. If so, get another, shorter hanger.

3/4" is close enough but something is weird about the tailpipe's height unless it is just the camera view. It seems my 69 tailpipe is very close to the floor when all is in position. The tailpipe normally sits next to and slightly lower than the Frame rail but it can't with that tank in that position, can it?

Pictures?

Bob, I was wrong. Went out and took shots of my 69 340 tailpipes. The pipe does not hang all to the left. I took some shots of mine. Trying to post them but it won't till I edit.

The long pipe in front of the muffler is about 1/2” from the floor. The muffler sits level. Seems like the exhaust pipe (or something I am doing wrong) is the problem.

I knew at the start, and Accurate reminded me, the gas strap hanger would have to me moved. I’m OK with that.

If the gas tank hanger was the only problem, I would mark the area and get a new bend or flatten the area with a hammer. Before I use brute force, I want to convince myself I have tried everything else.

I have 2.5 inch TTI's on my 67 Barracuda. I didn't remember having to do anything to the strap, but looking just now I see I bent the strap to clear the right side pipe.

My mufflers do not sit level. They are almost an inch and a half higher in the back than in the front.

I tried to take pix, but it's very difficult to do with the car sitting on the ground.

Another one. I can get better ones tomorrow. I can raise it but leave the rear end in place relative to the suspension.

To me the tail pipe looks like it was made wrong and too long. The pipe appears to be too far in the muffler, as the pipe on my 69 340 Dart looks nothing like that. my exhaust pipe by the way is one piece,
i could get you a picture of mine tomorrow though,,,,
what manifolds are you using by the way?

My local shop just built a 2.25" dual pipe on my 67 fastback. It is a little ugly with butt welds, but it comes out right at the valance. I also have the 68 valance with dual rectangular cutouts, and 68 tips. They didn't do anything to the tank or the hanger, except slip a short piece of hose over the j-bolt so the threads don't rub against the pipe. Not a lot of clearance anywhere around the rear spring and axle.

They are the stock manifolds for 273/318. Accurate confirmed that. Any photos will be appreciated.

So happy I gave myself a lift for a retirement gift. Doing all this on the ground, on my back would kill me.

that explains it, the 340 manifold pipes are different. However, I have an accurate exhaust system on another 69 Dart I own with the 66 273 HP. 2 into one single exhaust diameter system, 2 1/4 exhaust diameter. , and
single exhaust. So I will try to get a picture of the tail pipe and clamps to show where the muffler and tail need to be as OEM.
this exhaust system came from accurate as well.

If you have a 273/318 in a 67 Barracuda that is the exhaust you needed for your car in my opinion.it would look perfect, and flow very well. The 383/440 engines with single exhaust had the same 2 1/4 diameter pipe.

I have a 67, Accurate exhaust, no modifications whatsoever, fit perfectly.
I've had the gas tank in and out too many times for a junk in-tank pump and r&r was cake.
It's late, I'm tired, remind me tomorrow and I'll post a thousand pics if still needed.

I have 1 pic on my phone, yeah that's a rusty rocker, so what.
Original dual exhaust car, yes, the pipes look a little low from roughly the driveshaft to the mufflers, but you have to be lying on the ground to notice, and no, no clearance issues Clarence!

This has the 67 big block turn downs, one year only.
