Hello everyone! I'm thinking of going with a B&M Quick Silver shifter.
Currently, I have a '75 Scamp 383/727/8.75 - column shift.
Other than the shifter, which seems fairly easy to install, what else would I need? I know they sell a steering collar conversion piece, but could I keep mine in Park and remove shifter on column? What did you do about the steering lock? Any thoughts or experience on this?
I appreciate the input! Thanks!

Thank you Dusterdenovo for taking the time to share the link.
I've been on this site for ten years and I get one response?
I'll figure it out on my own with FSM. Peace out.

What else do you need to know?

I don't know how a 75 column compares to a 73, but as I recall on my car:

-shifter should come with everything you need to make that piece work.
-just cut off of the column everything shifter related and remove all linkages
- IIRC, I just welded the rotating part of the column (in the link above) in the PARK position so the key could be inserted or removed as normal.
- no need to touch the steering lock mechanism as long as you remember not to turn the key to OFF if you are driving the car and need to steer.

Hope this helps. It really is pretty straightforward, at least in my experience.

Thanks man. I don't understand how that column shift collar would be turning as you turn the steering wheel.
Why does it need to be welded?
I suppose it's one of those things in which you need to get in there and take a look.

It won't move just because you turn the steering wheel, but no good comes from it flopping around loose. IIRC, it must remain in PARK to enable normal insertion and removal of the key.

Get in there and have a look. With Tranny in PARK, disconnect the linkage at the column (and maybe your battery) and play around with the column in various shift positions and note the behaviour of the key cylinder across the various column positions. It should then make sense.

roadrunnerh,
I did the full conversion and installed the new collar piece I bought from Classic industries about a year ago. (It was a pricey piece, but the final result looks like a factory install). I did remove the internal locking wheel/mechanism just to simplify things and to prevent it from maybe rattling around some.
I took various pictures of each stage of component/section removals on the column as I installed my new collar if you are interested. I had some trouble getting the first splined collar to slide off the shaft and had to make-up a simple puller to remove it. There are a few C-clips and locking nuts as you disassemble everything (some of which i didn't initially recognize w/o some trial and error). Will provide pics and more details for the asking via this email: smattingly@strongspirits.com.

Why not just remove the column shift handle? That way if you ever want to go back to column shifter again you can just throw it back on. Once you hack it all off theres not going back.

Bad picture, but I literally cut that collar completely off. I don't think it looks too bad.

I can get more pics if you want to see it closer

Hey fellas,

Last year 12/25/21, I got Covid and actually had a seizure at home at 6 AM.
All is well after a whole bunch of tests! At 53, last year, I never had a seizure in my life! I was growing very frustrated with my Scamp and have barely touched the car for a year. I've been on FBBO more over the past year.

This evening while searching through posts, I found this. I actually forgot I posted this thread! It's weird, but the month of December 2021 is slightly blurry, LOL.
Anyhow, Not looking for sympathy - I really am as "normal" as ever. Expect to see me on FABO more often, as I finally get the motivation back to work on this freakin' car and get her sorted out!
