Column shift converting to B&M floor shifter

It won't move just because you turn the steering wheel, but no good comes from it flopping around loose. IIRC, it must remain in PARK to enable normal insertion and removal of the key.

Get in there and have a look. With Tranny in PARK, disconnect the linkage at the column (and maybe your battery) and play around with the column in various shift positions and note the behaviour of the key cylinder across the various column positions. It should then make sense.
