Car lift. I made up my mind.

Gotcha. Do you think this a better option then say Race Ramp wheel cribs? 16 Inch Wide Supercar Wheel Cribs with Extra-Wide Base (2 Piece) I hate working underneath the car, using my jack and 6 ton jack stands. For some reason I get nervous jacking up the entire front end from the middle of the k frame. It just feels like so much weight, even with a 3 ton jack.

I looked at those too but when he showed me how to get the extra three inches up to 17 that sold me on the set up I bought. Now you can always build a wooden frame and put it under those but I could too and be up to 20 inches. I wasn’t sure how the chemicals that I use in my shop would affect that foam either. I also weld under my cars at times.

Good call. I didn't think about them being made of foam. I think I'm almost sold on the ones you got. I'd like to be able to work underneath comfortably.

I live in Pa. it gets cold here. I’m fine guys honest. The day I can’t do my own work it’s time to quit and I’m not there yet. For less than 600.00 I’m back in the game and I sold my old lift for 800.00
At 73 I'd be in lots better shape if not for my torn up shoulders and round 2 of broken ribs on same side. That was mid August A YEAR AGO and they are not healed yet

I will never own a hoist with 8 foot ceilings.
Ya. Know, you can Always restructure a roof system. But cutting in a roof, re- framing, bracing, tie-in of existing roof can be fun...if it was my building, even as a career Carpenter, I'd pour a slab and do a tin roof, be way easier. Sorry for being off topic. I'm glad you are Feeling Better

Depending on roof structure, gaining extra height is do-able. But the stands seem to be working. Four 6 ton jack stands are my go-to when hoist isnt available. Last summer i bought a display ramp a dealership used. 3 feet high and portable.
I get the whole thing about getting old. 57 and arthritis is starting to rear its ugly head. Get down, get back up again is tough.

Ribs can sure take awhile to heal. I had broken ribs years ago when I failed to block a kick at Karate practice. Then again when I slipped on a piece of oily machinery at work. And there’s not one dog gone thing you can do to make them feel better.

Mon river, Allenport, Monessen Wheeling/Pittsburgh mills that I know of too.

So from the floor to to the bottom of the rocker how many inches off the floor is car? Also did you jack up each corner of the car at a time to place them? I need something like this. I have 8 ft ceilings. The Kwik lift looks cool, I just can't justify th cost. It's $2k shipped for me.

I measured it today. 23 inches to the rocker bottom at the front of the drivers side door. But remember I could gain more there by lifting the rear up higher.

I like the look of those lift stands, and the platform you added to get some extra height. But I'm like some of the other guys, just the getting up and down and up and down that kills me, and lying on the floor, or creeper, I always end up with several sore spots.

I’m better if I do keep moving. I’ve had a mid back issue for probably 30 years. The more I move the better it feels. Three knee operations on my right knee slow me down some but again I gotta keep moving. CDB oils do help me some.

My body seems to know the difference between exercise and work. I can ride for miles on a bike, and feel better afterward than I did before, but put me in the garage or in the yard working and all it seems to do is beat me down.

I was just thinking this morning that I need to start taking some joint supplements (pun not intended)

The only one I know of (that actually does something) is glucosamine. Actual improvement in clinical trials. Shouldn't hurt anything, either.

I refuse to waste energy and be uncomfortable just for the sake of exercising... but I'm willing to put up firewood, dig a hole, something useful.

Waiting on parts so I can continue working on the car that's up on my 4-post lift :D

Ok
Don’t brag now. Lol

I watch some of today’s younger racers and most pay to have everything done. Even my son that had raced all of his life hadn’t raced his car for three years because of money issues but just paid 4000.00 for a damn powerglide. I ran stock case, stock geared powerglide transmissions for well over 20 years before I stepped my game up. I had everything here and he could have had a race ready powerglide for under 400.00. I see younger racers getting on Facebook and saying they are going to change the oil or check the valves asking if anyone was available to help.

I've lived here for almost 20 years and didn't get the concrete floor and lift until last March. But once you have it, you'll never go back to lying on the ground! :)

(Actually I bought the lift 4 years ago, and it sat in the crate until I had the time, money and a concrete guy all at the same time).

They're handy for storage too :D It's only a 30x40 pole barn that was there when I bought the property. Wanted to put up a 40x60 until I saw what it was going to cost - and that's before steel prices skyrocketed.

I've always said, any fool can write a check. But the real reward is in building it yourself!

I don’t want to see the every day drivers. Post up the good stuff.

At 66 my bones creak a lot. Just ordered a 4 post lift. Exercise is highly overrated. Does your car last longer if you drive it faster and harder? Want to feel better & live longer? Take a nap…..

Man I would freeze in that shop here. No wonder you can’t work on the floor. I keep my shop at 62 overnight and bump it up when I get in there.
