Uncle Tony's response to Direct Connection

-
He cant be making that much coin on YT he doesn't have enough views that's why he pushes video 3 times a day plus live streams and t shirt sales. Another thing tell the guy to get a t shirt color other than black, if you spend time in the sun at all you'll know why...:)

Ha, that will never happen!
It's all in fun. There are some good guys here in this thread, they just gotta get past it and move on. Just plain silly. To disagree is one thing, we all do that. To call names, make fun of looks, and want to "get in someone's face" is just ridiculous. All to a guy that 100% minds his own business, literally.

I wonder if he would even bother with it. But it probably would stop for the most part, there are always them certain few who just can't help themselves and they would keep it going.
Yeah, I dont get it either, like their obsessed or something
Right before I retired I spent a year and a half at the truck repair shop, I did all the welding on trucks trailers and low boys and so I was always around a bunch of HD truck mechanics
There was this one guy who way back was into street racing and there was betting on whoever was racing
This guy was running big block Chevy's and he told me that he had a set of done up heads, a racing cam lifters, high rise manifold with some big Holley plus hotter ignition and headers of course
He would scour the local wrecking yards for 427 engines, either out of cars or trucks as back then mid sized trucks often came with a gasoline big block....He'd start the engine and as long as it wasn't knocking, he 'd buy it and put all his parts on that engine
Im listening to him and im like amazed and he told me those engines we're all loose and they would rev like mad.
He'd run them awhile if he didnt throw a rod through the side of the block, eventually yank the engine and find another engine
He told me and this guy wasn't no BS, he won a lot of races
Again Uncle Tony .....Old school hot rodding the way it was done by the everyday car head
Sure we learned the right way but we also learned how to get by with what was had at hand and that's anything but being a "hack"

I haven't watched Uncle Tony in awhile, although I may have seen the beginnings of that Miata conversion
For what its worth thats were the words hot rodding came from, doing exactly what this guy Tony does
I also will say as far as 10 over with a cylinder hone, I have no idea about ring sizes or what Tony was trying to do nor did I see that episode but ten over means taking off 5 thousandths, a fact that just may be lost on some and taking off 5 thousandths is certainly doable with a hone
Checking for cylinder taper with a feeler gage and a old ring? Yes ive seen it done and taking your time and being accurate how else did you think it was done 50 years ago in a backyard garage.....Who had a dial taper gage or even snap gauges and a set of mikes that size?
What ive seen on this Uncle Tony is old school hot rodding on a budget, reminds me of when I had three hand carry tool boxes, loaded with tools I had to carry out of the basement every time I went to fool on my car, when the sky was my roof and a old rug was what I had to lay on
You're only making the point that what was **** 50 yrs ago...is still **** today.
Tools are everywhere, cheap too. Buy a bore gauge and lend someone a machete in the jungle instead of a pocket knife...
Show them right, not dicey time consuming marginal results that vary type of ****.
Auto machine shops have been around as long as the automobile. Do it shitty, half *** or the right way. That's your choice if you champion '****' and romanticize long nights pumping a drill up in down , squaring and measuring a worn 'oor' ring.

Back to Tony ...and this goes for all....you ever hear the old saying/adage
"you were good in your time"..?
I don't hate the guy,but I dont remember reading anything earth shattering from him in any magazine. Most things if you just buy about 3-4 books are all covered and clearer than smoke n farts from tony.
I have better, more productive ways to kill time than to watch a guy who's long past his prime and fading into a fart cloud.

No hate. Just not impressed. Not interested in those stories much anymore.
Dont look back... look ahead.

So how much money do you think Uncle Tonys made off his channel? Hell, he has how many projects? The shop...beater boat for his grandkids.

He maybe ADD but it doesnt look like he's hurting for money. Unless you judge him on how he dresses.

What I don't understand is if you hate this guy so much, why do you keep watching his videos ? Why do you keep talking about him ? Its like, I know this hammer is going to hurt my thumb, but I'm going to smack it anyway. Just doesn't make sense. So you are going to save some young gun ? Oh, you knight in shining armor you. Please. He's not hurting anybody, you should all get a life, and leave people alone. Or show us some of your skills. I got money that says this guy has forgotten more than you haters will ever know. Move on.

So much ...that he works out of a storage locker...

Or is it consumed by cigarettes and beer or crank. Who knows what his debts are or cares. All I know ...is he put together a pos 318 for a guy and then blamed it's low oil psi and eating itself up on the guy ..when it was him that assembled a dirty motor, used the wrong size bearings and obviously didn't plastigauge the journals or he would have caught it...and then LIED ABOUT IT. BLAMED IT ON LIFTERS AND OIL THROUGH PROVISIONS IN SAID LIFTERS.

He blew it.

The point I made was ten thousandths is taking off five.... and five thousandths is nothing....Do you agree or not? Buy a bore gage? I knew one guy who owned a bore gage and he wasn't about to lend it to anybody.....They cost big dollars back then and it wasn't until overseas imported stuff hit these shores that measuring tools became affordable
Anyone who depends on a scripted TV show like Uncle Tonys to learn how to work on cars will never amount to much of a mechanic and that includes every show out there today.......Learn the way I did by reading watching doing it making mistakes and correcting them.....The same way I learned my trade
Maybe you had the dollars to take a engine to a shop and have them rebuild it and great for you, some of us weren't in that position and we learned and made do

Im interested, tell me more about this 318 with the low oil pressure and the wrong rod and or main bearings he used

Are you serious? It was probably the biggest engine building debacle in YouTube history. I feel sorry for the poor kid involved in that shitshow

"I'll get in his face" LOL The internet breeds all kinds.

Yeah.... I mean, he's in his own shop not bothering anybody. Just posting stuff on you tube. It's free to watch at your own free will. I don't know why he gets singled out. You have Whistlindiesel wrecking Hellcat, destroying diesel trucks, restored tractors, classic vehicles all for views and money. UTG cuts a 9.99 re-pop china DC plate in two and we have 7 page thread about it. LOL..

And wouldn't ya know it, he goes and posts an educational video just like the ones I missed!! This is why I am still a fan.

Not trying to fan the flames! But okay, I'll stop. I just thought it was cool that just hours ago he posted a video like the ones I missed. It's educational and not sensational. It's why I still watch.

I was just kidding :D

Yep, He lied about it and blamed the kid.
Who wants to hang with anyone who does that lame ****.? and to a newbie/young gun in front of the world to see. ..
Smart ones saw through it.

And that's the thing, it's a have to and not a decision. No ones bashing a have to, we are bashing the ones who had a choice but are tightwads or aren't really serious about it in the first place. I've done plenty of re ring motors, lapper heads... point came when I wanted to learn to do it right, getting better over time and to continue learning. Why only be happy simply because it runs?? Fk that. I want great, not "it runs".
So If you wanna chest beat over essentially the equivalent of cave drawings and stone axes.. then by all means, captain caveman.

That's very assuming being there are thousands of members on this board whom an unknown number agree and or disagree with you whom of which knowledge is yet unknown to any one of us ..... the most silent members could be game changers or door openers ..

Kind of surprised... don't like the content, don't click on it. Easy. Save the frustration. Certainly, there is more to worry about than a guy on youtube talking about cars LOL Nobody paid a fee...
I'll give him this: He presents himself well on camera. He looks comfortable and expresses himself without looking awkward. I've seen other car guys on YouTube that may have skills but they are wooden and are a poor fit in front of the camera.

I've had guys work harder trying not to work than if they just would have done the work! I just told them to pack it up and go home and did it myself. I worked better by myself anyway.
LOL! these days its about "getting paid" not doing the work or thats my observation at least. i tell young fols when I started working my bosses were vietnam vets my parents age, they let you know when you screwed up, and you didnt do it again. these kids want to be told "nicely" when they make a mistake and usually nothing changes afterward.
