Uncle Tony's response to Direct Connection

Some of the Motor Trend guys (Dulcich/Holdener/Freiburger) did actually test flipping pistons, I want to say on a junkyard 5.9L Magnum. IIRC there was absolutely no gain lol, if there was any it was less than 5 hp difference. They claimed they were testing it based on reading it in the old DC performance manuals which is true but of course some part of it was from UT as well. I personally like the MT guys, I think Freiburger is a stand-up guy who tries to do right by fans and the car community but I also admit at the end of the day they have to answer to a rapidly-growing media corporation which has money as the main priority.

I agree this thread is drawn out and while I'm not a fan of UT I will say that there's so much misinformation out there, if you were somehow miraculously able to stop that one channel from leading people down the 'wrong path' I don't think it would make much difference in the grand scheme of things. We live in a time where people can find "evidence" to back up ANYTHING and will often use their own experiences as proof even if it wasn't actually true/correct back in the day. Case in point, facebook... I'm only 30 but I really really hate it and all forms of social media. Any of you older folks who have never bothered to join FB (good for you, seriously) who think forums can be bad, holy cow you have no idea lol. I spent some time in the discussion groups for Mopar stuff and couldn't believe how many "my Uncle's Cousin's Friend's Charger with a 440 Hemi"-type boneheads come out of the woodwork to tell a guy what kind of heads to use for his 360 build or if you use torsion bars over 1" diameter your subframe will break.

Saw a Mark Twain quote recently that seems relevant, "Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience."
