Uncle Tony's response to Direct Connection

You say .005 is nothing? That may be if you are doing carpentry, but any time you are machining something .005 might as well be a foot. If a piston is designed to be installed with .005 clearance (.0025 per side) and you give it another .005 clearance you just increased the clearance by 100%. That is massive. When building engines .005 is an incredible amount to be off. You can’t be off .005 anywhere all call yourself a machinist.
What im saying is taking off 5 thousands is easy as far as honing or removing stock and what if I recall I stated was a 5 thousandths cut is removing 10
Are you a machinist? Or have you ever done lathe work? Did I call myself a machinist?

So read it again removing .005 gives you ten thousandth's. its not a lot of stock to remove per se,,,, thats all I said......I never addressed piston to wall clearance as that was not the point at hand and yes your correct that would a as you stated massive amount of material when fitting pistons.
