Currently the 6 pack scoop that is molded onto my stock 72 dart hood is cracking in some areas so I am going to deep 6 it. The previous owner gave me a pretty good deal on another stock hood that's painted to match the car, plan is to bolt a scoop onto it. Initially I was going to go with the hemi style 4 1/2" scoop, then I saw AAR also make a taller duel snorkal version that's 4 1/2". Either one I would probably wind up painting black, just having a tough time deciding. . . I could also paint the whole hood flat black or go with the demon style hood decal if I do the snorkal. . All opinions appreciated

Flat hoods are sexy.

If you have a solid stock steel hood, please sell it to someone that needs one?

Many have been messed up by adding scoops already. So if you must have a scoop, you may find someone wanting to ditch their scooped hood that is willing to trade with you.

Thanks for all the feed back so far. Due to the engine / intake / carb the flat hood wouldn't give me the clearance needed. I do also like the look of a scoop & am leaning towards the snorkal now.

I bought a snorkel scoop and then another steel hood that had already been cut for its old school teardrop scoop. I like both looks.

I'll be the first to suggest fiberglass

I rest my case. :)

ARR tall duel snorkal ordered . . . Now just hope it fits the contour of my hood, probably should've researched alittle more before buying

I've got an original raisin bran scoop on my 62 (also replacing a cracking Sixpack scoop). I vote for the two scoops. Besides, it's closer to an original look than the hemi scoop.

Yes, but 72 hoods are attached differently than 70-71. You need to use 72 hood hinges with 72 hoods and 70-1 hinges with 70-1 hoods.
Ok cool, as long as the hood shape / contour is the same the scoop should be able to bolt on nice

All the 72 hoods have cues in the hood frame that show you where key holes for the scoop go, AND the cues for the 70-1 two separate scoops. Placement is everything for any of these scoops to look right. 70-1 hoods just have the cues for the two scoop set up.

So my 72 hood should have little indents or something for the placement of the hood?

Yep, I think I can take pics of a 70 hood frame and a 72 frame, so if you ignore the ones on a 70 hood the ones left over are for the 72 scoop. Give me an hour or so - I know that for the two scoops, they are actually holes and partial holes in the frame.

OK, here you go, the first 4 pics are of 2 of my 70 Darts - one with the scoops, and one with a flat hood. You can see how the holes in the frame in 4 places per scoop, and a half hole in the edge of the frame per side define the location of 5 studs per scoop (10 in all). They are easier to see on the flat hood. When you compare it with the red 72 hood you can see all the holes in the 70 hood are still there and then in addition there are 6 additional holes which in my understanding are for the 72 dual snorkel scoop. On the two scoop set up, you can drill the holes closest to the windshield from the inside out and work your way toward the front edge of the hood, checking your work by using the studs in the scoop in the back holes. Don't let the drill heat the hood skin or it might warp or in your case fry the paint on the skin. It might be helpful if you ask for someone here to take a picture of the inside of their 72 hood with the scoop installed so you have a feel for where the studs with no corresponding frame holes fall.

Good Luck! Let me know how it goes.

72 hood - see holes for dual snorkel scoop - bottom rib, 3 holes - center of the top (front) middle triangle, 1 hole flush with skin - ribs running from center bottom to top outside edge, each has 1 hole, so that's 6 holes. It would be easier if you print out the 70 flat hood pic and the 72 hood pic so you can put them side by side. Just by eye, I think the 72 scoop holes are slightly smaller than the 70 two scoop holes. You will need to make a disc the size of the frame holes to center the holes for the studs in the skin of the hood. start with small holes - you can make them bigger but can't make them smaller!

Wow, lots of good info thanks. . I'm looking to bolt on the duel snorkal center mount scoop, I'll post a pic of the underside bolts

I believe I red a thread on this forum saying proper placement of the scoop is 3 1/4" from the back of the hood. Looks like I actually bought either 70/71 hood, are the corner bolt holes im using circled in black or red?
