morning fellows,

i need new shocks on the plow truck and i am not sure if it has been lifted or not

the truck in question is on 05 F350 superduty

does anyone know how to find stock measurements to compare the truck to to find if it has been lifted?

(if it has, it cant be more then 2 inches, i dont think)

thanks

Does it retain it's stock size tires?

best i can tell, stock tire size was 275/70-18

when i got the truck it had 285/55-20s on it, and now im running 265/70-18
(so im about half an inch shorter tire then stock)

Not lifted.

Possibly has the leveling kit installed.

I think the leveling kit for those years is 1.5 inch.

Check the numbers / stamps on the leaf springs.

If they say FORD anywhere on them its not lifted.

Nice truck.

But those racks... good lord man.. what do you haul on those?

Popsicle sticks and straws?

:poke::welcome:

Edit. Now im looking dose it have blocks in the rear? The rear dose look a little tall for stock but the front looks normal.

I wonder if the plow collapsed the front springs?

I have to agree with you if its lifted its not much. Are the shocks an aftermarket brand? Sometimes they have a part number stamped in the body.

Pull a shock and take it to the parts store see how the length matches up.

Not lifted.

i got the truck from a buddy of mine who owns a roofing company...so my guess is that rack is for ladders

I will crawl under there shortly to look for blocks

Is there any way to tell if the springs are collapsed?
they are not broken, I can see that much

Hard to tell anything, they are so rusted

I dont want too much downtime, so the plan is to buy a set, rip one out and compare it and hopefully I'll be good to go if not I will bring all 3 in to return the new ones and measure the old

According to advance auto, the smallest lift they show is 4 inch, and I know it isn't that high

If they are collapsed they will be reverse arched.

If the arch points upwards they have failed.

Mhhh ima have to Google that (with leaves it would make sense but these are coils up front)

And it does look like 4 inch blocks in the rear and ranch shocks ?

Ok.

Yeah. That is a four inch lift kit.

Id do.

Ball joints.
Tie rod ends
Break pads

Greases all zirks

Then shocks, steering stabilizer, alignment and that is basically a front end rebuild.

That is a factory block. Some Fords came with Rancho shocks too.

I just went and looked at the f350 out back same set up same shocks. All stock as far as i know.

Hasnt been touched since it left the factree!

A leveling kit would have a thick spacer on the front coil.

Awesome, thanks for the insight

I'll see if I can find a spacer up front (probably won't be able to check untill tomorrow)

Id be less worried about shocks and more concerned with front coil springs. Drive with that plow up and you'll know why......Bust a coil and you won't be plowing anything
Id also wire brush that frame and coat it with some paint made to be applied over rust
Frames on todays truck are crap, they are suppose to be structurally strong but they are thinner steel
I plowed snow many a year, I ran the most aggressive tire thread pattern I could find, my truck had 4:55 gears, id strap two 35 gallon drums full in the bed... Id keep a set of tires with chains mounted in the bed just in case......Nothing stoped that truck

well, i took a chance and picked up two stockers (monroe gas magnums)

i got one of them installed (without even removing the wheel, that was a bonus)
i would have gotten the other one done too but some dummy dropped the nut from the top of the shock and it fell down the black hole all cars seem to have in the engine bay

just for fun i measured the one i pulled off and i got 13.5 compressed and 21 extended
looked up the shocks i bought and whaddaya know

compressed length is 13.625
and extended is 20.75

ill pick up a new nut tonite and install the other one over the weekend or so
ill probably save the rear one till after winter
