LORD. I'm thinking of changing things a bit and been looking at 2500 pickups. Prefer stick. But regardless. They seem to be worth more now for a given truck than they were 4-5 years ago!!
 
Clean used trucks, no matter the milage, have been bringing big $$$ for at least 5 or 6 years now. I have been offered stupid money for my 2012 Ram2500 2wd just because it's in good shape! It's unreal!!!!
 
I was offered almost what I paid for my 2017 F350 King Ranch. 67K miles on it.

I made a huge mistake buying the old Cummins--it's 2WD and I convinced myself I "didn't need that." The gas truck it replaced was limited slip rear and it did OK nor more than I used it in winter or other adverse. But that damned Cummins --5 speed-- generates terrific torque and it does NOT have limited slip. It's useless in a muddy field or worse

The other issue with the Cummins is that I just don't drive it much, and it's also useless "around town" errands--going to the grocery store, it never gets warmed up.

The old Dakota might go away, too. I use it for "beater" errands but if much more goes wrong with it, it will go.

Regardless of "what I want" the prices are ridiculous
 
I went down the rabbit hole on these a while back. I was devastated by how high the prices were. I was looking for a beater to fix up with my stepson to give him as a first vehicle and couldn’t find anything newer than a 2004, under 200k miles (yeah, really), or without a rusted out frame for under $2000. Blew my mind. Took my time and found a 2000 Ram, 4x4, 360 with 79k miles for $2500. Took a while to find that one and I put about $500 into it for some brakes and transfer case issues, but it’s since moved my entire house and taken countless loads of **** to the dump without issue. Deals are around, but hard to come by.
 
wait till next year if you can. Dont want to get butt raped now for a truck if you can get it later .

Very interesting and honest. Thank you.

The never warming up thing is interesting and not something I had considered.

I have personally witnessed a high dollar engine get destroyed by not being warmed up properly. For how serious of an issue it is its not something I think about much in my daily driver cars.

(I still want a Dodge / Cummins 4x4 1 Ton tho.)

I thinking of selling the 94 1500 4x4
 
My 82 B2000 was $1800 her 7 years ago with 230K on it and has more bondo than a centerfold! Trucks hold their value out here when every gardener owns the cheapest one they can get, drives the prices up. I've seen full size older trucks for $1000 in other states, but not CA!
 
My brother in law just came for a visit yesterday. He told me he was looking for a "good used" truck and had 3K to spend. I just laughed. He said, "yeah I know, I've been lookin and had several heart attacks". lol

Well let the thing warm up before you leave. And I’m very surprised your 2wd Cummins 5spd didn’t come with a limited slip. Limited slips were standard in the Dana 70 and 80 that went behind the Cummins. Did you buy this truck used?
Also, you can get a limited slip easily for them
 
A Bro has been looking for me, and the gal and I been looking too. Found 2 Killer ones, a Dak and a Ram, both 4 doors, under 200,000. Insurance has had my truck for over a week at some auction. Place. Ain't heard squat. She got 3500 from them... but the 2 Prospects I found? Gone the next Day!
 
Price a nice condition 2011 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 Extended Cab. I have seen many of them for 15k or more, some over 20k. It couldn't have cost more than $28k new

It has 6 gallons of coolant, 6.5 if it’s got the extra heavy duty cooling radiator
 
I paid $3500 for this.It is a oldie. But even these are starting to bring crazy money for the right truck.

Ain't it truth? I just bought an F-350 7.3 6 speed dually & paid almost double for the same truck I bought in 2005.

I'm not gonna let the thing sit here for 20 minutes for a 8 mile round trip to the groceria. I have thought of putting a limited slip of some sort in, but the diesel warmup remains. I actually thought about converting the old gas truck to a stick, (before I sold it) but it was a standard cab. That of course is another issue--you find what is described says "this" and then you see the photos LOL

The fact is it was simply a mistake not getting a 4WD

You can also get various thermostat temps to help it warm faster.
Also what year is your truck? If it’s a 24 valve or newer, for 100 bucks, a dealer can activate it what is called “high idle” mode, which is a factory installed tune that will increase the idle on its own until the truck warms to 160 degrees. This drastically cuts warm up times in a big way.

It should have a plug in engine block heater as well.

I have a Dana 70 from under a Cummins truck under my rat truck. Open differential.

Just leave the thing running when you take it to town.
 
It's not uncommon here lately for 15 year old trucks with over 200,000 on the clock being advertised at 12 to 15 thousand. When I bought my Ram it was 4 years old and had right at 100,000 on it and it was only 13,000.
 
Yea used trucks are stupid high. Even more so here in Texas. By the way, (move this mods IF need be!!) I have a 95 2WD Ram 3500 Cummins I bought new, 225,000 mi. needs nothing, considering offers over $100,000. No trades either. I know what I have! :rofl:
Soo someone in Idaho buys a 2wd cummins!!!! :rofl::rofl::rofl::poke::poke:

The 4x4 being a mistake, yeah I can agree there.
