Dodge HellCats easy pick for thieves in the know?

I'm glad. That means my Valiant is way down on the list.

Saw an article a couple days ago where 3 or 4 Shelby GT500s were stolen right off the assembly plant lot in Michigan. Rammed one through the security gate, that one suffered some severe front end damage and was found a few miles away. Technology, gotta love it.

Any car that has a push button start can easily be stolen, I will NEVER buy a new vehicle. Toiletta just said that all cars sold next year will have a software connection you need to buy at $80/month that will only let you start your car. Why anyone would want to buy a new car is beyond me...

Kitty and I were really thinking about it, too. Our newest car is a 2004 Escape XLS 4x4. Best car we've ever owned. We've agreed to just put money in it next year for a few repairs it needs and keep on keepin on. If we add to the fleet, it'll be something pre 84. Probably another truck.

My understand is that is $80/year or $8/month, not $80/month. And it is just to use the remote start, not to start the car like you would normally do it.

Not arguing that it is ok, just saying.

My damned 04 GMC is already too automated for me. The lights/ lighting controls are a mess And ICONS I DETEST ICONS!! How am I supposed to know what some little diagram of a "light" means? Is it the headlights, backup lights, driving lights, fog lights or light lights??

I did a little more research and you are right, but how long before I am right?

That's why I keep the older stuff too. Newest one around here is a 2002 Taurus. It runs great, gets decent enough fuel economy, has a comfortable ride, and even goes ok with the dohc V6.

So you buy a new car and have to pay $8 a month for Remote Start????? That doesn't make sense. Are you sure?

they're all going to go to some sort of subscription service to "unlock" the high end features on the car you think you own. toyota has been doing this since 2018, and other companies have similar programs.

Everybody in this thread assumes it'll be legal to sell parts and fix these old cars indefinitely....

Typical Ford Mustang driving.....always find them a short distance from where they started a journey....either through a fence, or in a ditch.

My 05 Ram had those international icon symbols. Dang. At least put the words next to it.
I used to go on dodgetalk and read about the gen 3 Ram. One guy had put a Ram SRT10 instrument panel in his. It had the symbols, but also numbers instead of just L - H.

So, that's what I did and I love it.

Remote start subscription for toyotas is correct.

All sorts of corporations are currently trying to figure out how to have a semi-permanent, recurring connection to your wallet.

I understand electricity, water, waste removal...

...and accept internet/phone/TV.

But as for me.....nothing else.

"New Palestine and Cumberland police spotted the vehicles going west on U.S. 40 and north on Mount Comfort Road, but the pursuit was terminated due to high speeds."

To paraphrase a line from the second Vanishing Point movie:
"It takes a Hellcat to catch a Hellcat!"

I know nothing but I'd bet they plug something into the OBD port, push a few buttons and they're off. It's amazing the variety of cars Hellcat motors are being swapped into.

I liked the push button start and keyless entry on my Challenger. Pretty nice to just walk up to the car and get in and start it all without getting a fob out of my pocket.

Honestly, I'm not sure having a key would make them harder to steal, I'm sure they would just use a different method that would probably involve much more damage to the car. Unfortunately, an HC is just too popular so people find ways to steal them.

Milwaukee is suing Kia/Hyundai because their cars are too easy to steal, apparently it is due to a lack of an engine immobilizer. But the HC has that (I think) and it doesn't seem to stop them. Kia, Hyundai handing out free steering wheel locks through end of year

After further reflection, I guess the push button start feature opens the possibility to use a repeater to trick the car into thinking that the fob is in the car. But this is for all cars with a push button start, not just an HC. And I thought the dealers were getting wise to this and putting the fobs in boxes that block transmissions.

Guessing that isn't the issue though with these thefts as (I would think) the thief would use the repeater to open the door as well rather than smash the back windows.

The push button systems are pretty smart with rolling codes ect. The guys stealing them are probably showing up with preprogrammed modules and swapping them in. Or they are stealing the keys idk. They are not smash and grab amateur thugs

They do have remote starters that just plug into the OBD ports. I think you need to program them with valid keys to work.
