Temp gauge climbs to the max as I try starting the car. Car won't run.

Just replaced the distributor and the car doesn't want to run. It will crank and sort of sputter if I give it fuel, but that's it. And I didn't gap the distributor because I assumed that it came from the manufacturer pre gapped.

Like I said, the temp gauge just climbs to the max and won't stop until I cease cranking it. I don't know what's wrong. Most of the wiring looks to be hooked up right after I pulled the intake manifold and put it back on. I don't know what the issue is.
