Son's 1973 Scamp project

He is a lucky young man to have you as a mentor. My dad didn’t know a gas cap from a ball cap. Your son insures the future of our hobby.

Thanks man, you're helping too! Besides the inner fenders you might recognize that blue hood.:thankyou:

So we're back at it after a break for the dog days of summer. Took care of some other projects in the meantime. Cars back from paint and he's putting in the X-Mat. A friend gave him a bunch of leftovers from another project so we figured we would give it a try. Never used this stuff, seems pretty good. He liked the price.

Still breaks my heart seeing this thread and thinking about how kind Roy was to my son and how he took a real interest in him. We'll be missing him.

Where do these go, dad?

Put home worked Magnum heads on a stock 1983 318 cop motor bottom end. Comps 340 cam. MP upgrade springs. 2.2 retainers. Custom pushrods. Speedmaster airgap. Some sort of Krylon light blue.

Let's get this wired up and fired up!
This was all after a wire by wire inspection, refurbish of the dash harness and bulkhead connector delete.

There was an interesting development while filling the cooling system. We developed a slow leak out of the right front LA bolt hole on the SM aircrap intake. It's bolted on magnum heads so the LA bolt holes are unused for us. Hmmmm water. That's strange...........
Drained the cooling system had a look down that unused hole and immediately noticed some porosity in the casting between the intake bolt hole and the front water crossover. Uh oh. Bet there's a pin hole leak there. Filled it back up with water. Yup that's it. Now what do we do? Drain it again,
tap that hole NPT 1/4-18 pump it full of RTV plug it and rock on. That's what you do!

Sorry I forgot to get a pic of the bad spot inside the casting. But here's the after.

The offending hole and where about the internal pinhole/leak was. All better now.

Honestly, if I wasn't so lazy I'd take the SM intake off and send that sucker back for an exchange.
But I am. Lazy.

Can I ask for any tips/suggestions on voltage gauge and install ? I'm lazy, too !

Thanks ! Putting together a father/son '72 Scamp, btw.
That's so awesome, man! Do you have a thread going about it or any pictures you could post up? I'd love to see it. I love being able to spend time in the shop with my son.
