So my boss asks me the other week if I needed any taps/dies. Said his wife's cousin passed away and had a hoard of them that they were cleaning out. Sure Boss, I'll take what ya have since your just looking for a place to dump them. So in our new work from home situation of nearly 2 years now, we picked a day to meet at the office. He opened his hatch, handed me a bag that weighed about 20 lbs and said they were mostly loose, but almost all of them were new. THANKS BOSS!
But that wasn't enough. He said they opened two 55 gallon drums and they were filled with various drills, sawzalls and angle grinders. All of it was corded. So he said grab one of each, and if my son needed any, grab one for him as well. I almost feel like I stole from the man. I walked away with a Porter Cable and Milwaukee sawzall, 2 1/2 inch drills - Milwaukee and DeWalt, another DeWalt hammer drill, a Metabo angle grinder, 2 full drill indexes, and a stack of 7-1/4 and 10 inch saw blades. ALL OF IT IS BRAND NEW! I bet I walked away with an easy $800 in tools. Now I won't feel bad for disposing of my worn out 20+ year old Makita's with the obliterated bearings, taped cords and broken switches....

Yeah, it is sad and great at the same time. I am the ONLY a person in the extended family that knows what tools are for and how to use them. Whenever someone dies, and they had tools, guess who gets them. The last cache was from my BIL’s BIL. He owned a car parts store for many years. Even I didn’t want all of his tools.

I sometimes wonder what will happen to my tools. My son-in-law is an industrial engineer, but my tools wouldn't interest him. My favorite nephew was a mechanic and has every tool known to man and mine would just be in the way to him. Thinking of being buried with my 1/4" ratchet set,:) my all time go to tools set. The rest I don't think I will care when the time comes .

i think i'd want to be burried with my crowbar...you know, just in case

I've been buying tools since 74. I've always been a gear head. Been working on Harleys for 25 years plus.my own vehicles. I also did apartment maintenance and building contracting skills I have a ton of trades hand tools.
None of my 5 kids could give a **** about working with their hands, none of them can drive a stick shift.
I have no idea who's going to get my tools, the Barracuda or the Harley.
Told the wife to just sell em.

well that depressing

any chance one or two of those 5 kids are single female?
there might still be a gear head son in law in your future

Actually, my daughter has spent more time in the garage with me than the boys. She's not afraid to get her hands dirty. She's 23 and I'm in no hurry for her to get married.

Well, @ragtopfury, don't feel like you stole from him. He is apparently a good man who believes it is more blessed to give than receive. Plus, he must like you or he would not have made that offer. He sounds like a great guy.

Agreed @harrisonm . I've had many Area Managers in my 33 years here. He is tied for number 1. Besides, he has to like me...lol. He solicited me to move to his work group to work for him almost 3 years ago. Turns out I made my 1st lasting impression on him 20 years ago when he was a fairly new cable splicer and came thru the training center where I had just moved into. He was one of 12 in the first class I ever led.

Pa passed in 1984. He was still living back in Ga and I had moved to Mo. He spent 20 years in USMC aviation, he could do anything mechanical but his tools fit in a green bag used in the corp. He did not even have a timing light but could do anything to those old (not modern) cars.
Ma's best friend's son, came to her and asked to buy Pa's little bag of tools. She sold them to him. What an asshole.
