John Madden just checked out

They don't make them like that anymore, so glad I got to watch and listen to him and his crazy stories, phrases, and goofy mannerisms.

Really was a great guy....hated to fly....flew to see Daryl Stingly multiple times after being paralyzed by one of his players....Jack Tatum iirc..

Rest In Peace John!

Madden and Summerall!!! What a crew!! So glad I was lucky enough to hear these guys for years!!! Also glad I grew up a Cardinals fan and got to here the great Jack Buck!!! RIP Madden!!!

He was one of a kind, like him or hate him you never had to wonder what he was thinking! Loved his bus! He was a great announcer!
I am feeling a little odd right now. I am not that big a football fan and for some reason John Madden came into my thoughts a few days ago and I wondered what he was doing these days. To make it more odd I was watching an old YouTube clip yesterday of Don Rickles hosting SNL and Madden was in the audience and Don called him out to be recognized.

In 1960, he became an assistant coach at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, and was promoted to head coach in 1962. Following the 1963 season, he was hired as a defensive assistant coach at San Diego State, where he served through 1966. During that final campaign, the 1966 Aztecs were ranked among the top small colleges in the country. While at San Diego State, Madden coached under Don Coryell, whom Madden credited as being an influence on his coaching and who he felt would one day be included in the Hall of Fame.[17]

Hancock is our local Community College :D
RIP Coach Madden.

A few days ago there were commercials that turned out to be for the broadcast of his All Madden Team selections. Not knowing that, they sure looked like the kind of tribute that's made when an icon has passed. I was relieved to see that wasn't the case. Now this. RIP Coach.

He was truly a funny guy. Frank Caliendo does him well.

I'm lost, I thought he died years ago. I guess he fell of the map after retiring.
Every Thanksgiving I think about Madden's 6 legged turkey.
RIP John, you were a great asset to the game of football.

Me and a buddy were talking about him 2 nights ago. Wow just weird. He was such an integral positive influence on every aspect of football.
I grew up watching him coach the Raiders, then onto broadcasting, then his All Madden Teams and video games. Decades of football greatness.
RIP John and thanks.

RIP. Definitely one of the all time greats. He holds the record for the winning est coach. I think it was 103 wins in 10 seasons? Record still stands.

I am not the world's biggest sports fan, but I did like Madden. He was a gentleman with a good sense of humor, and he was a legend. RIP

Documentary on Madden was on Fox just last weekend. It was great.
Search for a replay of it if you can. Well worth the time.

That's not even close to the record. Maybe a Raiders franchise record??

None-the-less, he seemed like a good guy and I'm sorry to hear of his passing. Hopefully it was quick and painless.
