I have a 3 in the tree bench seat 67 barracuda I would like to convert to a console but I don't have the exact correct parts. All I currently have is a ebody shifter that doesn't have a slap stick rachet mechanism. I will make a custom console that fits a bench seat for now . I have located some old information that an after market " shifter gate" product made by DUNCAN DO not work well on A body shifters. I also read that you can file notches ( see pen in pic ) to get the same effect but I have not seen any photos. I am wondering if the " shifter gate "problems were solved. This Ebody mechanism appears to be essentially the same as a A body. Any info is appreciated.

Alter Shift Gate Auto Console Shifter

So you want to swap your three on the tree manual to an automatic if I’m reading this right? ...or you have a column shift auto and want to make it a floor shift?
Anyway here’s a thread that uses the modded A body shifter and ideas that have worked for some of us here. There are a few threads on this. You’ll need to add some mounting hardware to your tunnel to add the shifter among other things. Good luck.

I filed an extra notch in my console shifter to use a 4sp automatic trans.

I also installed a neutral safety switch (more like a "won't start unless it's in park" switch) in the shifter:

16richard. I don't think either one of the shifter assemblies in the pics are from an E body. I have also never seen an E body without the slapstick, even /6 cars, (if it was a floor mounted auto.) I had a 77 Cordoba & it had a factory slapstick in it. It may be possible that if you do have a E body shifter, someone removed the ratcheting pieces?

I am not sure exactly where these parts came . Possibly a C.or B. Body. The car is an automatic 3 in the tree. After considering the options I added safety notches on reverse and neutral (see pic ). Thanks again to all for the info. Happy New Year.
