Five months shy of 20 years of employment the company I worked for closed it doors today. The company was in continues operation since 1960. I knew the final day was today, but it's still a downer. First time I've ever been laid off from a job. I'll have a lot of good memories from the place and my name will always be tied to this truck we built.

That’s a bummer for sure. There’s always that hollow feeling when you lose your job in this manner. Monday will be a lonely day, but my hope is that you will ease into a new job, that suits your interests, schedule, and your desire for your future. Good luck bud!

Going to take some time to figure what I'm going to do. My body has been telling me I should stop doing heavy equipment repair. May look into more management/foreman oriented position somewhere.

sad to hear. Hopefully you’ll find something fitting soon

Sorry to hear. I can't imagine how you feel after that long with the company. It happened to me after 3 years and I was disheartened.

It turned into a blessing. The company told us in October and kept me on until December 31st to "clear out" the office. It only took me a week and right after I finished my mom went into the hospital. I was able to spend her last 5 weeks on earth with her.

Eventually I found a job that really fits me. It's an industry I never envisioned myself in but I love it. I work hard, but it doesn't feel like work...too much!!

Good luck on your next chapter. Like @WV64Signet said, there are a ton of opportunities out there. Word of mouth is still the best way to land a job.

The trucking and parcel business is booming. You wouldn't think so with all these, alleged, supply chain issues but it is.
It sounds like you may already have your CDL if you are driving what you work on? If not CDL is easy with a little study.
My Dad regularly made over $100k/yr with Teamsters.

Had the gates slammed in my face three times now. My advice to you is do not drink, do not do drugs, and get out for a least four hours a day.

Just retire and be a bum.

Cool truck build!

Actually, its should be easy to find a job. Keep your eyes and mind open. I've been laid off twice, and it was much to my advantage both times. I have been blessed everywhere I worked and truly enjoyed them all.

I know you have heard all the cliches, but some are true. The door is open to possibilities you may not have seen before. Don't know your age, but there are a lot of job openings now, and one may just be the right fit. Maybe it is the good Lord giving you a path to something better. Best of luck, Happy New Year ........ of possibilities.

As all things in life, something good will happen during a bad time. For me it's been the very recent reconnection with an ex-girl friend, who's been really supportive.

Thanks for all the kind words of support.

Don’t know how things are in your area, but here it’s wide open. Big companies that a few years ago, you couldn’t get an interview without knowing someone, are now begging for help. Good wages, with great benefits, and several offering hire on bonuses. Good luck!!

When one door closes, God is opening another one to show you a new opportunity.
I saw one on Facebook the other day....."when one door closes and another opens, you're probably in prison" LOL
