I believe that to be a 71 model year block . model year 1970 would have a block that was produced in the year of 69. It is still era correct and that is a good thing. That was a pretty serious builder one time those look like 12-1 Pistons and probably was running a solid lift camshaft.

I think that the "G" in the one pic denotes that it was installed in a 1971 model, but probably would have been cast in 1970. The heads look like w2's or something like that.

G in your first photo is the series (model year) 1971.

Heads do appear to be old race pieces with the D shaped ports.

Partial VIN would be on the passenger side, down low.

Looks like w2 heads and pop up high compression pistons. The numbers you posted are machining data, there will be block data cast into the block, motor size, core number and casting date. There will be partial vin number stamped on a machined pad above the oil pan rail drivers side that will tell you the year of the car and model. Take more pictures, you may have a direct connection x block made for racing.

He posted pictures, it is the normal block 340 casting. ;-)

Good eye I miss that.

Post a picture of the full front of the block.

Head casting number further support the Alaskan_TA/ch1ll suggested W2 heads.

“W Head
The “W” series of small-block heads are high-performance heads. The W2 was introduced in the early 1970s. It was probably the best cast-iron small-block head for 40 years. The W2 has a casting number of 3870810, and the large, oval intake ports easily identify it. The W2 was offered as an economy version with cast pedestals; the race version had offset rocker shaft stands.”

Snap it up. It’s probably worth upwards of $3000.00. Get the intake with it. If he has the headers for it snap them up also as I think the bolt pattern is different. Kim

Great link, very good info well written.

Pass side right down by oil pan rail, there is a flat machined are with a vin#. Take a pic if you can.
