Lifter tube peening tool

I tapped the back, and just use a 5/8 freeze plug up front.
I was thinking that as I just help a guy disassemble a solid roller w2 engine and it didn't have any plugs under the cam plate. There wasn't and oil restrictions either. The main and rod bearings looked good but there was some lifters replaced at some point.

As long as the plate blocks the hole you don’t need a plug in there as evidenced by the bearings

egg shaped is exactly what I had to deal with. Bought a short block a guy didn’t use. It was all put together and machined at MRL performance. Thankfully that guy is out of business .
Among other things, had to pay to have the lifter bores bushed to fix it. Bearing clearances wrong... on and on the issues. Glad the guy I bought it from didn’t use , for his sake
I pegged that guy as a hack years ago on this site!
