I was literally just screwing the two pieces over each other with self drilling screws and then cutting through both with a cut-off wheel and welding together with the help of some harbor freight butt welding clamps.
I prefer to use my set of Clecos instead of sheet metal screws... although drilling 3/32" holes is required :)
