What's the go to valve for a set of J's? these heads will be home ported, guides will be shortened in the bowl area by about .200" . Cam will be in the high .500 to .600 lift area. Is Ferrea still the go to? I want the 11/32 stem. is the .100 longer valve standard on builds with high lift cams? thanks

Thanks, they are Chevy type valves ? With the 11/32” ?

You would find valves with those dimensions listed for SBC applications.

Whatever shop your dealing with for the guide install can probably sell you some reasonably priced valves.

Competition Products used to offer some budget friendly valves, along with PBM.

Looks like plenty of deals on Ebag as well.

I used Ferrea in mine. You can play around with valve length to help with the rocker geometry issue.

Engine pro are my favs. The speedway HD valves are nice too. 5.011- 5.025 length are what I use. Geometry kit preferred.

1.94 or 2.02?

I'll add that ferrea 5000 series valves are overpriced 'titanic' in weight peices of sh*t.
Get the best or use a different brand, si,pbm, etc

What is wrong with Ferrea?
I have used them in many engines. Haven't used them in a Mopar, but last set was for a Pontiac, $160 for a set of 16. I thought that was a pretty reasonable price for non Chebby SBC valves.

I got a set of the Ferrea 6000 series for my 318 because they were going cheap, they look like good valves - nicely machined, undercut stems & swirl polished. Intakes weigh 123g & exhaust is 98g (2.02/1.6 with 11/32 stem). Are the 5000 series heavier or about the same?
I've heard that the engine pro valves were made by ferrea but not sure if that's true or not.
I used SI valves on my 265 - they are nice valves and priced better than the ferreas.

Nothing wrong with them. They are a good valve for the money

Fwiw You can get the roller centered with long valves...but it's not technically right..though itll be easier wear wise on the guides and get you by.
I have poked around on his website. Didn't see a products page. Does he have a standard kit per model of heads?
He doesn't, for a good reason.
Every valve job is diff, sets the valve diff height, the valves themselves come diff lengths...so which are you using ..then the guides can be in slightly different 'to and fro' by .002-.008 or wherever they end up..the machine they use matters there.. if if the guides are drilled by hand... the sloppy guide 'oval' allows the bit to follow the the direction or wear.

Many factors. Take your heads you just got out of the machine shop...put all valves in... then lay the edge of a steel straight edge or aluminum ruler across the stems...

Look for some not touching the ruler while others do. That's what I'm talking about above.

Things that are NEVER mentioned 101...

with all of the valve length choices why would you need to? What are you doing with your heads right now?

Ive got them at a shop today in El Cajon getting blasted and mag checked.

Ah you're local. Right on.
If you're ever in north county/oceanside...
San Diego East County. Like waaayyy way east, lol.
Ive got a good friend ( a Dodge vanner) that is going to port them. This will be his 4th or 5th set of J’s. I was thinking about reaching out to you but he’s a good friend and doing the work for a more than fair price. He had his last set in our preferred machine shop, Cogswell in Chula Vista (Mopar racer) and he said they looked pretty good. I’m happy to see my friend getting better. He’s an Army vet, went to School of Automotive Machining and Technology on the GI Bill. Trying to find his foothold.

Si valves are good as well as other name brands that have been mentioned. If you go with 2.02's make sure the machine shop unshrouds the chamber wall to ensure you don't have any breathing issues.

Good for your friend, and vanner. .nice.
Do you flow these afterward? or do they just "look good"?
Never heard of cogswell.
I've heard of ed hale, but he's long gone.
