1971 Demon 340 Inside out build "Demon-Rat"

-
I got a little time today to fabricate my rear frame mounts. I also have the Demon Rat back on the floor now. Locked down and ready to start cutting all the evil out of this Demon.

Left rear frame rail will be first, rear floor next, trunk pan, then inner rockers crossmember and front floor... then more. This will be a nice winter project.

340 X heads are almost done at the machine shop. All new guides and valves. Chambers cc at 74. I have an eagle 4 inch crank on the way and some scat stroker I beam rods. Waiting on a few other things before a set of pistons are ordered.

I had the day off today so after changing some plastic on my shop windows (we have -15 degrees coming up this weekend) I was able to start cutting the demon up. I like the caulk job on the frame rail. I mean at least use some expanding foam man. Haha. More to come when I get more free time.

It'll be like a new one when you're done.

Nice project! It will keep you out of the bars and pool halls!
I have to wonder why we never see such rust in Texas!!>>>>????:poke:

I had to clean the shop yesterday so no progress to report. I am heading out for a few hours today. I'm going to replace the right rear rail as well so I am waiting on that now. I still have plenty to do to keep me busy!

Salt. Salt. Salt!

Only a few updates today. I got a good chunk of the front floor out so I can access the inner rocker. This is two parts front and rear. The outer rocker actually comes inside the car and sandwiches between the inner and the inner window frame. Once I get to the outer rocker I will have to separate this again and tuck it inside. Same with the outer wheel house. I may just tap screw some of it together until I get to the outside.... and I may cheat and just put the outer on the outside of all 3 parts.

Check out the sweet seat belt mod.

I did decide on a color for the car. This is a spray out I did for it. This is GTS Viper blue in Akzo Sikkens Auto Base.

Dammit. Why caint you be local?

Shame we couldn't have come together on our projects before we started. My son cut up a rust free Demon to move the rails up 3 inches. We could have just swapped bodies. Since my hospital stay it sits in the other shop as it was taken there on the rack. Now we may build a Fast back gasser.

Beautiful build, but it pains me to see it cut up.

This one is pretty rough. She will end up getting both front rails as well. Lots of hack work done to this poor car. It is an H code Demon but original drivetrain and fender tag long gone. Too bad.

Not a ton of progress this week. I did get the rest of the sheet metal ordered. The clearanced rods will be arriving today. Pistons are ordered from dssracing. Waiting on the eagle cranks to come off backorder.

The boys had school on Saturday....they actually WANTED to go... so I got a few hours in the shop. I added the wheels to my frame jig so I can move this Dirty Demon around and clean up after it. I started prepping some of the new parts that will get welded in soon.
