360 into early A, best ex manifolds

Plenty of threads on here about them, just do a search. No two of these cars are the same, so some mods may be necessary, but most likely not. Here is one thread with some pictures. Search is your friend.
340 Exhaust Manifolds on Early A-Body??

I have the aftermarket copies of the 68-71 340 manifolds in my 66 Dart with a 360. As RustyRatRod said they are good but your fitment may vary. I am running TTI 2.5 inch manifold back exhaust (a challenge but I made this work). 90 degree oil filter and smaller filter is a must.

The manifolds are available on eBay.

As RRR said, no 2 are the same. When my Dad and I put together my first '65 back in late '70, he used the complete exhaust system, manifolds and all (notched the rear valance for the tips), from the '68 'cuda the 340 came out of. Fit like a glove but others have said they couldn't make them fit without considerable work so your MMV.

that is some good info. I milled my early 2&1/4 outlet ex manifolds 1/4" & it barely clears on the pass side & alot of room on the drivers side tho this is the 63 dart stock car with the racing thin steering shaft & this is with 3/8" of spacers on each motor mount but now that I have milled them I am going to see if I can remove em. On a side note I thought the 68-70 340 pass side ex manifold was way wider (maybe I'm wrong on that) than the pass magnum but a moot point cuz I am good right now. I do have a 408 stroker in the works & I'd like to use another set of magnum manifolds when the time comes in an early A body

I believe there is a set for sale listed in mechanical parts for sale.:D

I've heard some glowing reports on Dougs & alot of bad on TTI's & yes the 273 logs would suffocate it. I do have some Hooker 5208's but since this 408 is going to be a mild daily driver I will try like Hell to get some magnums to fit. thank guys. RR

Do you have a link to the repops? I've tried a number of search words and haven't found them.

If automatic Sanderson dd9 all good.

Those will work. But price doesn't for me.lol
Again 4spd z bar is the trick to get a at least a 2" head pipe thru to get flow.
Or better off with headers for $200 more.

Dave

I had a 68 340 and its logs in my high school 65. No issue, A/T and no power steering. I got big magnums for my 408 build...and 2 sets of headers.

I have Hooker Super Comp fenderwall headers for the early A-body on my 66 with a 340 and I love them. I have a 4-speed and it wasn’t an issue, I run narrow tires up front and used to daily drive it quite a bit, even in the rain. They fit great and do not hang low at all, haven’t had any problems with them since I put them on 15 years ago, not even leaks. I had the one small pipe section rattling a bit so tack welded it so it would stop. Doing another 66 4-speed but this one will get manifolds since it’s gonna be a mild 318.

I guess my issue is being convertible.
4spd magnum swap.
I do have frame ties but cutting fender wells
Is more compromising than thought.
My 67 Cuda Notchbig blockauto had no choice.
And maintenance a breeze.Still cracked
2 windshields....

decades ago Doug Dutra the founder of "the slant six club of america" had a BB in an early A & at the drag strip for its breakin run the windshield popped out!
