74 power wagon dream truck...

-
Working all afternoon today to get what looks like one wire LOL I strung all the engine wires and put them in this loom..
I've transitioned to this stuff from the corrugated plastic. Generally I get it in black and it looks a little softer but this white should look nice with the white truck. I'm hoping to hide a lot of the wiring and having the white looms up against the white fenders or tucked underneath them and not contrasting...
It's popping out of the firewall back underneath behind the distributor..

I like the white looks great keep your hands clean messing with it later!

I have them.. no tac or volt meter of course.. no 60 foot or 1/4 mile recall of course.. also the old ones don't have a inbourd programmable speedo for different size gears or tires...
Person preference... No offense taken..
I'll eventually get them for the duster as none of my original gauges ever worked...

So you did the led Duster cluster what did you think? I'm leaning towards this. I can sell mine as it needs heat gauge still. Thinking the original still not restored is costing me twice as much and will always be a weak link.

I have not installed that one in my duster yet but I will. Also I got mine on the Black Friday sale for 25% off...
This is exactly why I didn't use the old gauges in my truck. Very unreliable and spending twice as much to get the analog gauges working correctly.,. The digital gauges are so much more precise...

Makes you appreciate different colored wires. Had an issue on a Freightliner with the electric side mirror. Kept writing it up for repair. Eventually, the shop mechanic showed me the wiring diagram where every wire was white. I relented that I could live without the power mirror functioning.

That is a very good point. Functionality is more important than looks.... I guess. Lol I like the a body one you pictured I wish they would make something like that, that had the original looking gauges too. I don't like all the digital stuff in classic cars. I agree the old gauges suck and are a pain to get working properly but I like the original look. You know me. Lol

The wiring is moving painfully slow, but moving... Just double checking everything as I go .. no fascinating pictures just slow progress...

Hopefully the third time will be a charm..
I had my pic of two windshield wiper motors and pick the one that looked the nicest painted it and installed it... That was probably a month ago. Fast forward to today and I'm getting the wiring going on it. Of course I'm testing each circuit as I go along with a 12 volt power supply borrowed from a friend..
So the aesthetically best of the crop that's been painted and awaiting it's first test run DOA....
So I head up to the shed 26° out and clean up and give a quick touch up with paint.. install it plug it in and it works perfect... EXCEPT.. it doesn't stop in the right spot.....
So I started thread and figure I could try a different switch but I try it one more time and it takes off running great but I noticed it's no longer moving the windshield wiper knobs... The internal gear must have broke.....
Got a new one ordered and hopefully it will be here Friday......

I have faith in you, the head lights won't light up when you turn the radio on.
You are going to have a very nice truck when you're done.
I actually pretested that yesterday...
I'm going to run the high and low beam signals out to relays that will run straight off the battery... I don't want to run full juice through the fuse box..

You should still fuse high loads like head lights, even if you keep it under hood. In a front end collision, it could cause a short that might burn up the wiring, relays, and perhaps the battery. If it catches fire, .......

Any wire coming off the battery I always use some kind of fuse.. also the relay's will have them..

I knew you'd be on top of it.

Follow J par's threads, you will see he builds with safety in mind. His detail is second to none.

I've been wanting these sport mirrors for some time and finally found a decent set on fleabay... I realize they're not year correct as these are I believe the 1980 and up. I'm not sure... They have two Mount holes not four... They are Factory though they have the pentastar and they're in pretty decent condition..
Also my fender bolts I had to get new ones I mean of course I just had to! LOL..
I was happy to see the bolts were still just a little bit under what I paid for the fender itself.

I had some issues getting the rear drive lines to fit for some time now.. I took the wedges that came with the 4-in spring left out and it dropped the pinion angle just enough to get the drive lines in....
I could tell that depending angle was too steep anyways and needed to go down...
Anyways that was a huge issue in my head resolved...
I got some more of the soldered center butt connectors today and connected a lot of stuff up and got things more tidy under the dash... Withstanding the overhead cab light and a couple things I'm ready to start going outside of the cab to run the speedo fuel sender neutral safety and the front and rear lights and harnesses...

The Harbor Freight spray gun gave it to all today LOL I didn't feel like cleaning it... Pulled it brand new out of the box used it... And there it sets.. LOL $12.49...
I don't do that every time...

I have a couple of those guns, they shoot fine.
I only half-*** clean them and they keep going.

My good gun on the other hand I am sure it is super clean when it is put away.

Hey I had a quick question I was going to put those inner fenders on today and put the passenger side fender on as that's where I'm running all my wires and hoses. I'm thinking the outer fender goes on top of the inner fender?... Or does the inner fender tuck inside of the outer fender?

Inner fender goes on the inside of the fender, and the inner fenders should be painted body color.

Now I wonder about the inner fenders needing to be body color?.. I've had one or two trucks yes but most have been black...

Honestly All the trucks I have had have been body color but I don't think it's worth losing sleep over!

Cley
You know I started exploring through the pictures of all my previous trucks and again one of them I know had shiny body colored fenders on it but the rest I think what it happened was they became so Rusty that they just look dark. At any rate these are black and they're staying that way LOL...

Not so fast Jpar.... Easy peasy right just put the brand new bolts in the brand new carriers and bolt on the inner fender...
Not so fast grasshopper...
Why won't this inner fender go on?..:BangHead:..
You know I thought it was pretty cool that I have DualShock provisions everywhere...
Time to go full custom garage....
