noob valve spring question

Man, this looks like some Covid down time busy work! Love the spark plug test jig. I MIG welded the holes shut on a set of air injection heads, quick zip with the gun and a few pick hammer blows. Tapping cast iron is a PITA. I'd drive ball bearings in next time. How's your fuel pump? I had a motor that would idle all day but bog out 30 seconds into a drive. It was the fuel pump: carb leaning out so much that it just fell flat on its face and stalled. Head scratcher until I looked at the carb float behind the glass window and found the carb almost empty. It had an electric fuel pump so I had to catch it with the ignition off right after it bogged and died or else it would slowly fill back up and startup again. If you ever look at the keyway on a crank, its facing right up #1 at TDC, a quick and dirty way on a motor with no balancer installed.
