The 5.125 retainer dimension does not match up with the transmission build date. Please see Brewer’s website for bell housings that would fit your application.

The transmission may not be an OD, but that's the only style bellhousing that will fit and work correctly.

If you switch the front bearing retainer, small 3.70 bolt circle, and you can use the correct bellhousing or any other bellhousing 68-71 except the 68 273. You can also use the 72 -74 A body bellhousing. It will also fit 1967-1971 A-body if BSB734 bellhousing ballstud bracket is used.

I currently have bellhousing, 6/28/69, with 4.320 IBR hole.
Will smaller bearing retainer fit same mount hole in front of trans case?
If so where to find one?

Passon Performance or Brewers Performance. Make sure you have the 3.70 bolt circle on the front bearing retainer. Get a new seal also when you get the retainer.

The bearing retainer OD will need to match the bellhousing ID of whatever bellhousing you choose, so that will be your choice to make.

I completely rebuilt my first A833 for 69 Swinger 340 4sp back in 74, just because i wanted to. I remember using freezer and heat changing bearings.

It really perplexes me that the IBR dia on my trans is the od style, but obviously isnt od... anyone?
Are you SURE? Have you inspected it? Put it in high gear and count how many times the output shaft turns per one revolution of the input shaft. Pretty easy to verify.

I did, it is definately not OD. 1st 2.66:1 (35 teeth), 2nd 1.91 (34 teeth), 3rd 1.39 (29 teeth), 4th 1:1 (24 teeth). Al

Just change the front bearing retainer with a new seal and gasket. Use sealant on the 4 attaching bolts. Not sure how it got the O/D retainer, but a very minor fix. Enjoy!

Are you sure it is not 4”.805 ? If it is in fact 5”1/8 th make sure you mesure between the bolts. You can go “up” in retainer size to a 5 1/8 with the correct retainer, but you can’t go down. As said check with brewers they can set you straight..Swingn’
