Side Exit Exhaust--Is there Room?

I have this weird idea for running a dual exhaust set up using a dual-in/dual out muffler and getting it to dump out just in front of the rear tire, think NASCARish but two pipes instead of the boom tube. My idea is that the internal shape of the Black Widow exhaust muffler is essentially an x-pipe, so by buying one muffler, I get a crossover, as well as muffler. I'm going to discuss the plan with my local exhaust shop, but I was wondering if there's even room to run that much pipe over to one side of the car and get it where I want. I think that the muffler would end up pretty much underneath the driver's floorboards, so I'd definitely throw some heat shielding on it.
Anyone tried something like this? Or is there a reason I'm the only person who thinks this is a good idea?

These are usually done on one side of the vehicle and exit the same side at the rear. The problem your facing is the actual Real estate available under the car to where you could place the muffler and still have ground clearance. The only place this could possibly fit would be at the rear of the trans tail shaft and I’m gonna tell ya you don’t have the room. Your best bet for side exiting exhaust is to mimic the AAR Cuda exhaust. You can purchase mandrel bent pipes and/or cut you’d own, then use this muffler;

You could also create your own muffler with the right metal and a mig welder. Just use header collectors welded to the muffler wall. Create your own inside path.

I also do agree and X pipe would be excellent to use.

Is your engine a slant 6?

Following. Thinking the almost rectangular boom tube and using E body muffler.
 
...............Which is why the TA/ AAR look alike systems are done as they are. I used to have marvelous pipes under the RR but that is a larger car, and even then, having the mufflers further up front for sure denegrated ground clearance some

Well, since there really is no room underneath your valiant, you could try and run 4'' oval pipes off of the collector. Kind of like nascar but with a wider oval, it would need less height. Also, you would need to make your own oval mufflers because other than boom tubes, there is not really a cheap super skinny muffler out there. If you want to keep it simple, mad max pipes out the side of the car.
 
I checked out the system from Accurate which looked good ( kinda expensive )but went ahead with my own setup using the QTP cutouts as I already had the Accurate mufflers and crossovers. I wanted the side exhaust (still need larger tips) and the rear under bumper look. The bigger system with those big tti’s took some doing to clear gas tank all I needed was some hangers and a muffler shop with a pipe bender. The rears tips aren’t in their stock position but not much is stock anyways.

I was kinda thinking that real estate is the problem.

I need to change my username, lol. I v8 swapped the car within a year of buying it, so I'm working with a small block. Currently 318, going to be growing up to a 360 so when I do the exhaust I want it to be overkill for my current engine

Yeah, the whole u turn thing screams bad flow, but if the factory put it on the 340 cars, it's probably not too restrictive. If I do this, then I'm running dual sides, my goal was to kinda do something unique, but getting something that's functional is equally important

Swapping to headers and redoing the rest of the exhaust while I'm there
 
Bear in mind that you are eliminating the "u turn" over the axle, as long as the bends are done properly, no reason it should be that restrictive.

Hadn't thought about it that way. That's a good point.

I guess that the factory had it right on the AAR mufflers, and for packaging, it seems to be a no brainer.

I think I'm going to call up my local muffler shop and chat with them real quick and then maybe get to cutting out old exhaust and installing headers. I'll post the results back here if I can remember to!
 
got it back from the exhaust shop. It's actually quieter than before so hopefully the mufflers break in a good amount louder. Looks pretty good though, I'll snag some pictures and post them up here
 
I see you got it done already, but for others, the I think it was the Hotchkis Challenger had Flowmasters or similar, capped the outlet, then cut holes in the sides and ran rectangular tubes straight out to the side.

Don't mind the wildly misaligned hood gap. Used EXPENSIVE magnaflow mufflers but overall the look turned out good. Thinking about adding boom tube style tips on it already.

Can run oval tubing if your worried about clearance, they have all the bends and transition from round to oval.

I noticed your car is a super rare Modtop. I'm an enthusiast of modtops, for a reason I can't explain. I remember the few I saw as a young man, and loved them for some reason. I loved Laugh-In, too. Showing my age I know. A local Mopar legend, Pat Blaise, had one for his Mother for years. Not being nosey, but could you give us Modtop fans more information on your car, please? Paul.
