Aerodynamics & Diverting Wind Resistance ?

-
All the basics have been covered already. But i have a practical suggestion that might help. Put the bed topper on it like others have suggested, and attach these “airtabs” at the rear: Airtab | Aerodynamic Fuel Savers | Welcome/. They’re supposed to help semis reduce drag significantly for fuel economy. They work by creating controlled turbulent vortices off the back of the vehicle that create a virtual aerodynamic shape, similar to what a spoiler does.
watched the short video, interesting !

Have you got a front end alignment?..
no. maybe something there. I know my '76 Duster needs one bad. I did the front end and never had it aligned..
  • i was just looking at aluminum topper shells on marketplace :D

Oh boy... And of course you know that a drag race alignment is way different than a daily driver or a road performance alignment... Just because you can let go of the wheel and it drives straight doesn't mean it's aligned LOL...

yep!

I've got to get the alignment on my duster changed this year. I drive it on the street now and when I go around a slight curve it squeals LOL.. it still has its drag race alignment...
April will be here fast...... I'd like to run a 7.99 with DT. New owners at track, we'll see if anything changes.

Maybe everyone's time will get a little better and it will be a real popular track LOL...
i don't think that... lol. It's not a kind track but prepped right. I just mean the handling of it all, from tech to time trials, and how they'll view TnT on bracket days. That's the main thing for me.

There is something there, trust me. Do you have a copy of the MP Suspension manual, ninth edition? It tells all about how to minimize camber and toe changes from front end rise and settle. Very straight forward and easy and purt near guaranteed to speed it up a fraction, much less help it handle better.

i don't have that issue, but I know there are gains to be had in alignment. The long bed truck doesn't lift like a Duster, but there will be something there for sure. I may wait till the BB is in it before messing with it.

That's true, but there is still front end rise and settle involved and keeping toe and camber changes minimized will only help and not hurt. I'm sure there are also some drag coil springs made that will fit. Might not be listed for application, but diameter and length.

I like the plexiglas idea or louver idea already brought forth. New cars (and trucks) have shutters that close and open. Open to cool the coolers and close once up to speed to reduce drag. Something like that in the 1/4 could maybe make a difference. They’re also super thin and brittle. It wouldn’t take much to divert the air. And also stated, smooth finish is huge. I had a Jeep Cherokee years ago and I had to repaint the roof. The difference between unsanded primer and when I finally did single stage was nearly 2mpg.

I do my own wheel alignments now. I have a GTO which requires shims to adjust caster & camber. Don't want some dude's belt buckle scraping the paint as he leans over the fender to change shims...

On the rare occasion I need another person in my engine bay, I provide them with fender covers.

Look at the aero dynamics of this in the back....
