I'll admit it.... Brand X that I really like, and it's a GM.

First car was a '67 Skylark 340 four barrel with a two-speed auto. Overall it was a nice car, BUT was terrible on gas (I've never owned a Mopar car that got less than 12mpg in town). The Buick got 6-8 mpg in town and was SLOW. I think my old '79 3/4t club cab long bed Power Wagon was faster AND I know it got better gas mileage.

I've long suspected that there were fundamental issues with that car, but I didn't know anything and didn't have any true hot rodding friends at the time. Thing is that the car ran well enough until the end, but we never did figure that out.

Something was definitely wrong with your car, Jim. My '65 (similar drivetrain) is fairly consistent regarding gas mileage - most fillups show 14-16 mpg. Of course, it's been as low as 10 and as high as 19, but those are anomalies.
