Javelin

This B Scheme card destroyed the myth that the first 1000 of 1500 cars were A Schemes.
This guy ordered a Hurst SC Rambler, ordered what he thought was the A Scheme car and the B Scheme showed up at dealer.
He had no idea about the other color scheme.
Oh man what a bummer that mist have been!

I was able to buy this running 401 V8 that came out of a 78 Matador Police Cruiser. New bearings and seals for sure and whatever else is needed will be done.

So the Javelin will move up from 304 to 401 cubic inches. I’m thinking of running the Edelbrock ProFlow 4 multiport fuel injection on this bad boy….

That will be well worth the effort and wont cost you any more to rebuild than the little motor. I would spend more money on heads rather than fuel injection. Fuel injection can be a total deal breaker when you have issues. A carb is more reliable, simpler, and cheaper.

The Edelbrock RPM heads will do the trick.

Picked up the 401 today out on Long Island. It’s going to IDM Speed and Machine in Stafford Twp NJ for a full overhaul. This old E350 box truck I bought just to have a few years back has come in so handy. 450,000 miles on the old girl and she still pulls like a beast!

Last week the 401 went to the machine shop and was disassembled And the block was tanked this week. Waiting to hear about how much they want to bore etc. This week we completed getting everything stripped off of the unibody and today we sent it over to the restoration shop for new inner and outer rockers, floor pans and a new trunk floor to start with…

The guys from the towing company and the body shop were loving my wooden cradle. We blocked the car up off the casters and chained it down fast for transport

Are you going to have the body media blasted?

Yes sir, they are sending it to the blaster next week. Aaron is going to bring the doors and front fenders up there at the same time
A clean start is the only way to do them.
Its like the foundation of a house.

The 401 looks like it’s new after it was tanked and magnafluxed. It’s on the machine now getting bored .030 over today.

That is going to be a nice engine.
It’s a forged crank with forged rods. So far the plan is to run Edelbrock RPM heads with Edelbrock ProFlow 4 multiport fuel injection. Most of the AMC guys say to run the Edelbrock cam that is designed to match that top end package. I saw some nice shorty headers on another AMC build that worked great in a Javelin. The machine shop is recommending hyperteutectic pistons since there are no plans for boost of any kind…

We delivered the fenders, doors, hood and deck lid to the soda blaster today. The Bodyshop is flat bedding the body up to them later this week. I am fairly certain that one of the doors and both front fenders are useable. The underside rust on the hood and deck lid bracing structure makes them not good candidates to even try to repair…

The car is at the media blaster now and the removable panels have been done already. The deck lid and hood are not worth trying to fix due to rust through and the passenger fender is rusted through on the top flat section. Both doors have rust through on the bottoms but can be fixed and the driver fender is fixable. The rest of the body gets done Monday and it ain’t gunna be pretty but we knew that going in. May need frame rails, may fix what we have.
I have a call out to a parts dealer in AZ asking about fenders, doors, hood and decklid.

Hell yeah! That looks like an Autolite 4300 carburetor.

Absolute greatness going on in this thread, congratulations on finding that 401 police block

I looked at buying a Javelin other week. Sad part is the owner took the seats to a upholstery shop, it went belly up and he lost his seats and door panels, he tossed the hood because it had some rust like yours, he tossed the front bumper, due to some bad chrome, the grill got busted before he bought it, which he could not help. I figured all that wold cost me $2000 plus the hunt and ride! Made his roller not look so good.

I was able to find a pair of rust free fenders on Facebook Marketplace for $750 that my son needs to run out to meet the seller in Carlisle PA.
Then I found a pair of rust free door shells on eBay shipped for $775 and a rust free deck lid on Facebook Marketplace shipped for $175.
Also ordered a pair of quarter skins for $1,500.
I may need to buy some frame rails but fore the most part I sourced all the metal I need.

I could have fixed you up with a rust free 69 roller. He guy wanted $1500 but was missing the hood etc I mentioned in post #172. Yea, I know shipping to NJ costs too much.

It’s crazy but we really wanted a 70.
One year only!
