I'll admit it.... Brand X that I really like, and it's a GM.

I had 2 Buick Le Sabre’s. 4 doors. One had a 310 2 bbl and the other had a 355 4 bbl. 1 friend had a 67 Le Sabre with a 340. Another had. 68 Wild Cat with I think a 430. Kim

Friend of mine had a '66 Buick that you did not want to see in the lane next to you at

Those old nailheads may not have big HP, but they came with tons of torque!
yes, torque. Of all the stock 225 /6's I've owned in A-bodies, none would have touched the 225 Buick I had. 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile, top end, wouldn't have mattered. No matter the HP listed on the papers, the Buick was in for the win. The Dart I raced with the 225 /6 was one of the best running and performing /6 1bbls we've owned, and that Buick buried it when we raced. I mean, none of them hot rods LOL :D :D Just say'n, same cubes

Of course, there was TV Tommy Ivo's early sixties dragster with four Buick nail heads. 401's, as I recall. It's still around, this is a recent photo.

Tommy Ivo - there’s a name I haven’t heard in a while.
The Showboat was 4 Nailheads and AWD! Used to love watching it do burnouts on TV and in movies.

Before the dragster, Ivo had an injected, Buick nailhead powered T bucket that was a consistent drag winner in the street roadster class. Built in 1956, by the late fifties the original 322 inch carbureted motor had been bored and stroked to 402 inches and injected. Ran 11's in the quarter at 119 mph, which was really good for the time, as most streetable hot rods were lucky to break into the 12's.

PS: The car was recently restored to its final racing condition appearance (before various show mods by subsequent owners), but its present motor is a 364.

I hate to admit it but, I have had a few GM cars in my past. The 2 that I really kind of enjoyed was a 68 Camaro and, my 70 Chevelle. I will say I would DEFINITELY own one these right now!!

I've mentioned before that I like "classic cars", and owned others besides Mopars. However, in my car past I've owned a couple of '66 Buick Specials. They were fun to drive, reliable, and good-looking cars. The '66-67 Specials/Skylarks have always been in the back of my mind. Someday, I wouldn't mind owning another....

Back in high school I pumped gas at a local garage and one of our customers rolled in with a beautiful white on white skylark like that one. Had a 4 speed as well and the engine sounded strong. I was a die hard mopar guy even back then, but that car had me drooling.RJ

B.O.P's are my favorite next Mopars.

Friend in the old homeland had a Goat (GTO) 400, TH400, 12 bolt, lotsa good parts added. The Chevelles in town didn't stand a chance . He had a music store in town and one of his young employees really liked the Goat and found himself a Ram Air 400 GTO for cheap, 4 spd car :D. It ran OK when he got it, but it was just not right. My buddy says "Give it to Alex, he'll get it right." I played with it for a Saturday, put a tune up kit in it, his dollars , took it for a test drive. After burning the tires through the first 2 gears and halfway through 3rd, I took it back to him. Buddy says "Take it for a test drive" to his young working man. Kid comes back with this look of disbelief/excitement on his face "What the hell did you do to that thing? It's Scary!". Buddy and I just look at each other, "That's the way it supposed to run."

I'm a big Byoowack fan. They're the lightest of the big blocks from what I understand....and also kinda their weak spot too, since the blocks are really light weight and thin. But they can make pavement peeling torque. I've always wished Byoowack had made some kinda F body. Could you imagine Firebird/Camaro style Byoowack with a 430 and a 4 speed? I'm not sure anything Pontiac or Chevy either one would have had anything for it.

Skylarks are great cars. I've had my '65 for almost 20 years now...it's a 300 four barrel car with an ancient lacquer paint job. It's just the kind of old car I like.

First car was a '67 Skylark 340 four barrel with a two-speed auto. Overall it was a nice car, BUT was terrible on gas (I've never owned a Mopar car that got less than 12mpg in town). The Buick got 6-8 mpg in town and was SLOW. I think my old '79 3/4t club cab long bed Power Wagon was faster AND I know it got better gas mileage.

I've long suspected that there were fundamental issues with that car, but I didn't know anything and didn't have any true hot rodding friends at the time. Thing is that the car ran well enough until the end, but we never did figure that out.

Something was definitely wrong with your car, Jim. My '65 (similar drivetrain) is fairly consistent regarding gas mileage - most fillups show 14-16 mpg. Of course, it's been as low as 10 and as high as 19, but those are anomalies.

Nothing wrong with a Buick. Classy, luxury, muscle cars! When I got my 1st real job, out of school, I considered buying a 1970 GSX from one of the salesmen where I worked (similar to the photo).

My dad talked me out of it because of insurance costs and the standard "you'll kill yourself in that car" reasons.

We have a young couple in our club that had a BIG BUICK ELECTRA 225

Somebody offered him stupid money for it, so it has been sold. Now this young couple have a baby on the way (May) and needed a new, more family oriented ride.

Cool thread.
My unofficial first car was my mom's '64 Buick Special 4 door with a powerglide.
Dad let me drive it to school but I was never given the car.
I liked it though, and it drove nice.
There will always be a soft spot in my heart for '64 and '65 Buicks...
