Port St. Lucie Florida

I’m there. Are you sure about high humidity days in the 90’s for months? I’m used to a much faster pace of driving. Speed limits are 10-15 slower than what I’m used to. But it is a nice easy comfortable drive.
On the flip, I-95’s limit is 70. I get passed like I’m standing still by a soccer mom driving a mini van loaded with kids never mind the sport cars. It can be a little tough to find “That House” that is not in a HOA.

Overall, it’s good here. Speaking of born bred and raised people from this state, Excellent people around me. Very warm and welcoming. Easy going and will love to laugh with you.

Even the people that have lived elsewhere say they feel so relaxed and happy they came down.

Is it a good move? Like a jacket or pants, try it on and see if it fits.

Son in law went hunting in northern Florida and came home with a little something…. LMAO, 375 lbs of a little something with tusks…

I don't think I'd worry about snakes and gators with this guy around. Them hogs aren't exactly friendly.

I was born and raised in SoCal and lived here my entire life.
I did a tradeshow in Orlando, FL, a few times for my work. I got off the plane my first trip there and thought I needed gills to breathe because the humidity was so high. All of the exterior windows of the airport terminal were fogged up because of the AC inside and the humidity outside.
Also being from SoCal I'm used to being able to see mountains and snow in the winter. Driving around Florida it looked like the highest point of land was the top of the offramp from the freeway. There's nothing there to stop the wind during a hurricane.
Definitely not for me.

But we don't have earthquakes and massive fires and stuff I can't talk about because it's not the N&P forum.

@Rat Bastid Prices and taxes vary a lot depending on where your purchasing the house. As well as the neighborhood. Which is a serious concern as well.
bcschief nailed it.

Land prices vary a lot as well. I could have bought more acreage than I know what to do with and built a house on it for about what I got into now. The out laying neighborhood where the nearest shopping is, a bit sketchy. The crime rate was higher than average. But then again having a house built on 10-15 acres 20 minutes away was an interesting thought. I could have put a hell of a house on that with an insane garage.

Your buddy will have to wise up and carefully hunt around. If he is cash limited, he may end up boxing himself in a place not so great.

As far as gator, snakes and other big things that can hurt, kill and eat you, that’s what a pistol if for. Though I doubt you’ll be in “The Woods” needing one.
Do so know what animals are protected though!
BIG DOLLAR FINES for screwing that one up!

How close are you to PSL??

I grew up there. Too retirement crowded now.
Well according to the media all the old people in Florida were killed by Covid so there should be lots of room now. :D I’ll agree that the snowbirds are annoying.

Oh my God!!!!!!!!!! You mean it's NOT a hoax????????????????????:mob::realcrazy:

Hummm, I just drive it two days ago… I think it took me about an hour. I also don’t drive very fast normally. If I’m doin 70/75, I’m good and feel like I’m making time. But not by compare to some of the others on the road.

I’d bet I could do it in 40/45 without getting crazy. It would be a fast pace though. What’s up?

Well I’ll say this, the world has got to be running out of baby boomers to purchase old/new land/houses sooner or later. I figure the market will semi crash just in time for my son to get something really nice for cheap.

I mean really, how long can they stay alive? Those aging baby boomer pot smoking acid dropping garbage fast food eating hippie freaks?

Some of the best music was by them and thank the lord!

I’m as country as I want to be. I noodled this cat on a visit back to Oklahoma (my home state) but them Florida boys are crazy. Noodling is where you dive under water and put your hand in a catfish bed and let it bite your hand. You can’t do that in Florida.

Of all the guys I met in the Navy, Floridians were the most redneck. I always enjoyed drinking with em. I have 3 really good Floridian friends that I would drive across the country for right now. Florida boys and Okies is like peas and carrots.
I was a party animal and my friend from Dade is a party animal. Together at a party, whoah. Hide your women. Get ready to do a jig to some Marshal Tucker. Then we’ll fight somebody. Then we’ll go walk two miles to get a case of beer and have 12 left when we get back. That was a typical Saturday night.

Boomers Sooners, you be welcome at our place any time!

Oh I’m with ya on that! Love meeting FABO’ers.
Straight up fact! I have had several in my shop and I have been in several of their shops. You literally get exactly what you think they are, no posers here. These guys are exactly as they portray on FABO. Just an absolute hoot! And yes prepare to be dehydrated, filled with lies, good food and hugs all way round.

College football was always something that brought us (Floridians and Okies) together. I was in the service beginning in the early 2000's and it was all OU and Florida teams for awhile. Some rivalries are hate filled like Texas Longhorns and OU but it was always very festive with the Florida/ FSU/ Miami football fans. As long as there was drinking and partying involved we watched the games side by side and had a lot of fun.

I am fortunate enough now to live just a few miles from multiple FABO'ers. One guy, who doesn't post, and myself have been on Mopar hunting safaris and met up with other FABO'ers on our trip. Very good times.

I’m going to be face to face with my buddy on the 29th I think. May be the 30th. Whatever the last Saturday of the month is. He wants to get together, BBQ and have a bunch of us over to watch about 15 hours of old football video from 1992-1996. We won the City League in 1995. Not bad for a bunch of neighbor hood guys.

When we get together, I want to know all I can so I can lay it all out to TRY and help his big nosed *** not make a bad decision on where to live when he gets there.

Here’s the crappy thing. He’s NEVER been to Florida. Couldn’t find it on a map if he hadn’t been to basic training in Georgia.

We don’t know if he met a gal on the web, or if he just threw a dart at a map and that’s where it landed.

I do know that several of the guys that will be there aren’t letting him out of there without answers. His dad says we can tie him up and beat him until he talks.

Sadly, it may come to that.

Life can change in a split second. At least he made the decision to act on his dream.

One foot in front of the other, one step at a time. He will figure it out as he goes.

Not an easy time right now to find a good deal on a property like it was back in 2012 when the bottom fell out of everything.

Might be surprised at what he can find if he is a bit resourceful.

Pop a new roof on an old shack, and good to go.

Biggest price break I seen here was after hurricane Andrew IIRC. THAT was a crazy one. But you can’t wait for those things to happen. You’d be nutz if you did.

Good luck on finding out what the deal is.
PSL is nice. I don’t know what your living is like where your at or what he expects. Your giving up the hell of old man winter rod the blazing heat of summer. There’s a few months straight it’s murderous here.

Today for example the low was 61*’s and it is 67*’s @ 5:10 am. I’m told this winter is a little warm. Trees still have leaves.

That’s just it...we don’t know if he is running to something or someone, or running away. I was there when he met his ex wife. I knew her. I told him she was bad news. He didn’t listen.

That’s just one example of him doing impetuous things. I could easily name a dozen more.

We are trying to get out in front of a disaster. I mean, the idiot doesn’t even have a job down there. He has enough cash from the sale of his house to buy a house down there, but that will leave him basically broke. As far as we all know (and we are 99% sure of this) he has never been to Florida. He admits he doesn’t have a job lined up, or even a single prospect of a job.

Whatever his motivation, I fear he is in way over his head.

If anything, bar none, have a job lined up and waiting for you when you get here.

Speaking of which, what does he do for a living?

^^You can't swing a dead cat around here and not hit 30 help wanted signs. Course they all don't pay $80 grand per year either.

I’ve noticed that but as you said the lay rates are entry level. My son applied to 20 or 30 places which is all on line without a phone call back from a one of them. There help wanted signs still hang today. He took a cashiers job at Circle K for now.

WTH is up with these places?

Best bet is to have something lined up before you move.

He drives truck for a living so he should be able to find something. Myself? I’d have a job before I moved. But my buddy?? I think he is winging it. And that usually turns out bad.

I’d say normally that’s true. Things like this are not good to gamble on.
CDL tractor and trailer certified?
I do not know anyone in that biz, but my son in law fixes those rigs and other trucks. No small fry stuff like a slick up. Fire engines, Mack’s, Volvo, etc…. He MIGHT know something.

Class A with doubles and triples endorsements. Don’t think he has the tanker endorsement.

Hummmm, perhaps he remembers how Florida has opened up some ports to the long line of cargo ships waiting.
