I spent the whole day working on my mountaineer last week i had to brake pads and found i had a bad wheel hub on the driver's front. So I ordered a new hub and replaced it today. Let me tell you that was a job. That sucker did not want to come out. I had to make a hub puller out of a piece of scrap steel i had i finally got it off and the new one on. This comes after I just replaced the fuel pump and the shifter cable. It the process I found the driver's side manifold has a gigantic crack in it. I thought I heard an exhaust leak i thought it was coming from the down pipe but nope its the manifold. This thing is starting to Nickel and dime me to death. I've been planning on getting another everyday driver for a while but it may come sooner than later. Lol
Sorry no pictures I busted my camera on my phone while working on this stupid car.

U wouldn’t have to work on ur stupid car if u had a smart car. Lol

Those repairs are cheaper than 700 per month for 7 years. I just spent 2 weeks doing the same to my truck. It sucks, but now I'm done......For now:lol:

Drives you nuts working on beater but then you start looking at the price of new vehicles. Its nice not having a car payment. Its nice when you wind up with a ding from the inconsiderate in parking lots and think...its just a beater. Or run the truck up a hunting trail...scratches give it character.

I just changed the pass side tie rod on my 4x4, needs another off the steering box...before that I replaced all the rear bushings on the volvo, the fuel injectors, filter and trans fluid. Truck is gonna need an axle u joint next and probably wheel bearing while I'm there. 300k and 325k ..on those 2 vehicles...That's life.

The old "law of diminishing returns", had a few of my own, the trick is to turn loose early, unfortunately like many others i never followed the advice.

As frustrating as it can be when it seems like every day there's another problem to fix, I'd still rather be doing that than forking over $6-700.00 every month for 5-6 years or longer. Then when you're finally done with payments, you're left with a pos that's worth 1/10th of what you paid for it, never mind all the $$ you spent on insurance and keeping it running.

Yea thats how I justify it too. Lol I don't mind working on them if it's a beater or a play toy. Like my dart or ram. But I don't like it for an everyday driver. 3 different times this past week I got In it to go to work and it either wouldn't start or wouldn't move after it started. And I had to take the wifes vehicle to work. I don't like that. For one I don't like leaving the wife and kids without a vehicle. And two if it did that anywhere else I'd be stranded. I don't like that.

Yea I've been looking at new vehicles for a while and they are so damn expensive. Even used ones. A used ram with 100k miles is 20-25 K. In 5 years ill be right back in the same boat. I have found some base 4x4 v6 rams new for around 35. As much as I don't want a v6 truck that makes more sense that 25 for a used one with 100k plus miles. What I want is out of reach. A new ram built with the options I want is 50k I just can't afford that.

Yeah, I hear ya, I take a peek at the window stickers on occasion whenever I have a delivery or pick up at one of the local dealerships. A well equipped new F150 Supercrew will easily run mid 60k here, a loaded one nearly 80k, similar Ram 1500 is not far from there either. We have some difficulty making ends meet as it is lately, wife has been on disability for 3 years now. We have even cut back to only one vehicle on the road since November, still not easy with the cost of everything going up.

I can't even remember the last time i was at a new car dealership, there's nothing there that's worth what they want.
A vehicle with about 100 K or so miles that's been serviced and taken care of is a steal and the depreciation is already pretty much done. Of course those are hard to find and are snepped up quickly, usually by a family member r friend.o

What blew my mind where the Toyota Tacomas. My brother bought a brand new one last year (2020) for like 32k its pretty much base but its a really nice truck. Has navigation Bluetooth all that sorta stuff and is tank in 4x4 we take it hunting and the farm we hunt is extremely steep and rough and wet. We have taken that little Toyota places that my dodge or his old Ford f150 wouldn't dream of going. Now that same truck used is like 45k its crazy that they go up in price after they are used. I've seen several Toyotas with a higher sale price than the original sticker price. I really like the f150 (2018 and newer) but that cam phaser issue has me really hesitant to buy one
