So I went to Mom's today. She's 50 miles from me. I forgot something so i turned around...luckily i was 3 miles from home. Walked back to my truck and the tire was low. 15#. Strange I thought since it was the drivers side, as a truck driver you get use to checking things like that. Added air...then heard a dull pop on top of the tire then a loud hiss.

I figured i'd just plug it but it didnt look like a plug would work. Take a look at the picture.

I drive usually 250 miles a week, mostly highway or rural highway. There is a stretch of rural highway that is between flat farm fields so snow is a concern. Last year only 3x that really concerned me. I hunt but the roads are ok. Some off roading. Nothing crazy.

I'd prefer an aggressive tire for those 3 times year and if the highways turn to ****. I do plan in towing a car trailer this year so a tire in the E/121 load range is preferred.

Anyway. I was looking at the Cooper Discoverer at3, Bfgoodrich All Terrain KO2 or Nitto Terra Grappler G2.

Just figured I'd see what you all think. I'll be getting them next Saturday.

I have cooper discoverer on my 05 2500 Cummins long box, my rear tires are about expired but still was able to make it around in our snow & ice, in 4 wheel drive of course.
Mine are E rated 10 ply

Separated tire. Use a plug only if you are in the middle if nowhere and you can't make it somewhere to fix it correctly. Then replace the tire.
If the tires are the original it is time due to age to start shopping for new ones. The P in the tire size indicates a Passenger tire, not a 10 ply "E" rated tire.
None of the tires you are looking at are in the load range you asked for.
The BFG is a "C" 6 ply rated, the rest are standard load tires.

My son had Nittos and now has Coopers on his 06 2500. And I'm on my 2nd set of Nittos after a set of coopers on my 05 2500. Real life comparison between he and I - too dang close to call a favorite. Both seem to perform and last equally, except the cooper's seem to give a slightly softer ride. We are in Northern Maryland and get true 4 season weather.

I just went back to bfg becuase i knew what i was getting. In snow country its what the majority use. Most times never need 4x4 with them

Works in the occasional mud as my truck can show right now (frozen mud chunks waiting for warmer day)

Years ago i had the BF Goodrich KO's, 2 sets. they were good but the price went through the roof. Now the 3 are about the same price with the Nitto $20 each cheaper. The hole in the picture is off my current set of AT3 there were on the truck when i bought it a year ago. upon futher inspection there is dry rot forming but since i dont know how old they are, i didnt look for the date code.

Was always told to buy Michelin’s, not cheap, ignoring good advice, always bought Firestone Discoverers, never had problems

Nothing but Michelin’s for me for my Ram’s since I replaced the Goodyear’s on my 94 (3 trucks ago). The change was recommended to me by a Regional Service Executive for Chrysler.

I put cooper discovery at on my 01 ram probably 7 years ago maybe 8. And they still have a little life left in them. Not much but a little . They go awesome. In snow and light mud and do really good in grassy fields. I had Goodyears before the coopers and they would spin bad in grass id have to put in 4x4 just to drive thru the yard.

The Cooper is a great tire. Think they are still USA made too

We have 5 months of winter driving here and I have had good luck with Goodyear Duratracs. Tread and ride quality good but are a little noisy due to tread pattern. Also need to keep them rotated every 7000 miles to prevent them from lumpy and cupped.RJ

I just put some some Kenda All terrain tires on my plow truck and love em so far

Of course, anyone who has ever owned a dirtbike will tell you Kenda makes THE BEST dirtbike tire out there, so when I heard they make truck tires it was a no brainer (and decent price too)

between the three choices, I'd go with the BFG's

I've always had good luck with them

I've run a lot in various Jeeps and trucks. Cooper, General, BFG, Toyo
Nice. Or the AT3s. I have the AT2s on my old truck and can recommend them. Pretty sure Toyo and Nitto are the same manufacturer.

I've run BFG AT on my Jeeps. After about 15-20k miles, they don't do anything well and they get chunked pretty bad from offroading. Maybe a Jeep thing. I got tired of replacing them, although when they are new, they are hard to beat overall.

Running General X3 on one Jeep and ATX on the other. The ATX was cheap, plus a rebate and I'm real happy with them. X3 would be too aggressive for freeway. They are the best mud tire in snow I've used. I had an older version of the Cooper STT muds and they simply would not move in snow, and that was with Truetracs F/R. They got real noisy and vibrations were major on the asphalt, so I was done with Cooper.

Falken Wildpeak AT3 are highly regarded on some of the forums I visit.
Michelin AT - punctured a sidewall pretty handily, they are gone.

the good thing about the Toyo CT’s that I posted is they are for higher mileage driving with good tread life, are winter rated, are not noisy, and are decent in off road usage. Think service work truck usage.

I run the BFGs KO's on all my trucks...not because they are the best at anything but mainly because I how they look...
