After recovering from Dragweek I changed out my ATF (Royal Purple) to John Deere Hy-Guard hydraulic oil. I did some general maintenance to it but otherwise it is the same as it was at Dragweek. Made 2 passes first was exactly as it was at Dragweek. It ran 8.59/159 and change. A marked improvement! It went 8.74/155 at Dragweek. The Holley EFI showed 18% converter slip on regular ATF. So after making a run to bestbuy to grab a computer (i left the laptop at home) i gave it 100 more rpm on the launch and upped the boost ramp .1 seconds to bring all the boost in .8 seconds into the run. I wheelied to just before the 330 mark and it went 8.46/163. Overall a great day and the car drove into the trailer. Win-win.

Here is a few more pics. Check the bent wheelies bars. I straightened them after the big wheelie at Dragweek and i think they were still a little bent. So once they were loaded they bent again.

Those wheelie bars look a little bow legged! Damn, that thing rips must be a hoot to drive. Nice car! 65'

When's the next Bakersfield trip? I would love to get up there one more time before I move off to Texas.

Looks like you need some cross bracing on the wheely bars.

Out of courisity would you be faster / quicker if you did not lift the front end, I know squat about drag racing setups

The wheelie bars were already bent a little bit from the first violent wheelie in Michigan at Dragweek. I straightened them just to finish Dragweek. They weren’t perfectly straight so they just rebent again. I need to make new bars in something with a thicker wall. Its on my list of things to do.

The car does wheelie too much. Its weight distribution is 50/50 which sounds idea but on a car with traction and a lot of power it makes for ridiculous, yet fun, wheelies! Power application is key here. Rather than turn it down i am going to add some weight to the nose of the car. All good observations.

Very nice my friend. How did the trans like the hydraulic over the ATF? Any noticeable difference? I have LAT racing atf in mine currently. Still waiting to get her back from the dyno shop and making that new bracket.

It picked up 8 mph with just 5 quarts of the hydraulic fluid. Way thicker than LAT or any other ATF.

Very nice, reason I ask is I have access to hydraulic oil since I work on forklifts for a living now.
Right on. ATF served me well until i built the new motor. I really need a tighter converter but this is kind of a band aid. No one makes turbo 727 converters and so im kinda stuck. I need to change to a turbo 400 so i can readily buy a billet bolt together converter.

I got my turbo one from PTC, its loose but designed for turbos. What brand is your current one?

You probably have but did you call PTC and see what they can do?
I didn’t call them. I called ATI who actually has a billet bolt together converter and Pro Torque which has a billet welded converter. Both said I make too much power for a 727 and O should really make the move to a TH400. I am done throwing good money at experimental things. Pro Trans can change the bell housing and input shaft and front pump to TH400 so that I can run a 400 converter but we don’t know if the 727 has the same converter charge pressure so its a wild card.

Interesting, I'll probably be in the same boat and seeing how the 727 handles up to the twin turbos.

The trans does very well. Its the lack of aftermarket support for the 727 that sucks. The other issue is the lack of an aftermarket case for it. Not that it needs it. The case is plenty strong for what we are doing.

Agree on that, wish the aftermarket would do a better high HP case for a 727.
