Hello I’m looking to get an aftermarket head unit with blue tooth for my 73 dart and 4 speakers. Does anyone know what size head unit I need and what size speakers for the doors and rear deck. Right now the car has an am radio with one speaker in the dash I believe. I checked crutchfield and they have no helpful info
Thanks

All of todays aftermarket head units are built to a D.I.N. standard. That has to do with dimensions (Google it for more info). There was no such standards when our vehicles were built. You would need to butcher you dash to install a D.I.N. head unit. There are places to send your original radio to and have it modified.

Best way, IMO, without having to carve up your dash would be to mount the head unit under the dash with something like this:
Under Dash Surface Mount Overhead Stereo Radio Housing Boat Marine RV Trailer | eBay
Skip door mounted speakers, you ruin your door panels and can run into clearance issues with the window mechanisms inside. Instead, either get some kick panels made for speakers like these from Year One:
A-Body 1962-76 - Dart - Duster - Valiant -- Interior / Kick Panels / Panels With Speakers / (yearone.com)
and/or buy or make an adapter to mount 2 3.5" speakers (or tweeters) in the stock dash speaker area:
[FOR SALE] - I'm back with my dual 3.5" speaker brackets | For A Bodies Only Mopar Forum
The rear package panel should accept standard 6x9" speakers.
Mount the amp in the trunk, leave the factory AM in the dash.
Some will tell you to just mount a bluetooth adapter in the glove box and play music off your phone, you can do that too.

I've used a head unit with a USB plug that'll play my phone and charge it in a couple vehicles.
I have mounted them in the glove box and left the stock AM radio in the dash.

I used that for my head unit. For speakers I just went with 2 6x9’s in the back.

Ok so I’m probably going to put the radio under the dash board. And do 6x9 speakers in the back. I’m not sure about the kick panels

Mine would be better with speakers toward the front too but I’m happy with it. I drilled two small holes on the bottom lip of the dashboard right under the radio. Used two bolts to secure the housing but I needed support for the back of it up towards the firewall. I took a 4x4 and cut it down and wrapped it in black carpet to match the floor. You would never notice it and I can remove the housing from the car and you don’t see any of the holes.

someone can mod your here with a BT chip inside. IIRC there are shaft mount radios available that have USB at least and aux ins for phones. and plenty of small amps that have the same stuff built in. Just mount it under the dash (they are small) and run a SD card full of music onto it. Comes with a little credit card remote youll lose too!
