I have noticed the last 10 years selling anything in a pain in the ***.Now buying is getting just as bad. More and more people list cars and parts as make a offer. If you are not on a auction site just list a price! For the last few years when people ask " What is you bottom dollar?" I reply what is your top dollar? And when I ask this it pisses most people off...lol. And it's not worth what some one is willing to pay. If you have a car let's say just a 72 Dart slant 6 car 30,000 miles survivor car and I am willing to pay $1200.00 I am sure it's worth more..right? I have been in Mopars since 1984 at the age of 14. I like to switch cars every 3-5 years and the last 5 or 6 cars I have sold has just been a pain in the ***. I was selling my 71 Road Runner a few years back for $21k. I had a guy offer me 13k and said "That is where he needed to be so he could sell it and make money". Wow what a idiot low ball me then tell me your are plan on selling it to make money off it. I just hate most people anymore. So many Clowns out there. Ok my rant is over....LOL

Hate is the ugliest of humanity. I do not hate anyone.

If an ad does not have a price, I know that the item is not for truly sale, it is a fishing expedition.

No price, just move on........

I was dealing with a guy the other day that had a car part listed for 10 dollars, but when you read the add it said "make offer". I PM'd him and said "I can be there in an hour with the 10 bucks". He said, "do you know what they cost new?" I said "yep, but your add says 10 bucks". He said "read further, make offer". I simply said "i cannot buy it and sell it to me too! Would you load a shopping cart up at walmart if no prices were present??" He reluctantly gave me a price which was higher than I would pay, end of story.

So the 10 bucks was to lure in a sucker?

so many list a car for a $1 so you'll click on the add and read what they have to say. Sometimes Marketplace won't let you price accordingly. In his case, he's hoping the 10 bucks gets you in the room then you offer more than what he had hoped to get. I'm like Alaska_TA, if you are embarrassed of the price, or expect me to beg for it, I'm on my way.... and not your way :D :D

Ok, I get it. I was looking for a Truck before Christmas, the Gal would see one for 1,234... I'd say nope, keep going that's some bs....

Agree, can’t stand when people say “make an offer” educate yourself on what you are selling and ask a damn price! Or don’t educate yourself but still put on a price! When I go to swap meets I rarely buy stuff if there is no price...then I ask and they give me the same old line so I just pass... as I put it down and walk away they still try to get a price from me....people always try to buy low, so if I make an offer it will probably be too low anyway. I see this more and more, online and meets, mostly I think it boils down to 2 things, people are just being damn lazy or they just don’t know what the heck they are selling....and again too lazy to research it’s value.

I usually know prices for things I'm looking for at a swap meet, kinda have a list in my head of what I want. Works well for overpriced items, for me, when I list other purchases of similar things while haggling. I'm also one of those lowballers on Sunday, usually for crap I don't need. But it's one less thing for them to drag around.

I sell crap for low prices, I'd rather move it to someone for cheap than keep something I won't use or don't need.

I'd rather see someone us the crap myself...

At the swap meets I’m known as “cheap parts guy”, and as such I don’t usually have prices on my stuff. Reason being that I don’t like to lower the price on the tag if it doesn’t sell. I also like the art of conversation, and some spirited haggling, tho rarely needed. If I have something that I know is valuable, I try to price it under market by just a bit so somebody gets a good deal, if I had to put a price on it I would have to price it higher, to avoid the lowball offers.

Funny example… I had a flywheel that I got in a deal, wasn’t really sure what it was from, but it had “130” written on it for the tooth count. I had it sitting on the corner of my table and a guy walked up and said “would you take $120”? and I said sure. After he walked away I realized that he thought 130 was the price. In reality, I would’ve started the haggle at $75 and probably taken $60.

The make offer crap just turns me off like a switch. I always list a price and "OBO". Got two things I'm takin to the dump next week because nobody showed interest.....and I was gonna try to GIVE one away. So screw it. lol

if a guy says make me an offer, i tell him that i won't do that because if i offer too low, he is pissed off and if i offer too high i screw myself. there was a guy that used to go around the swap meets here that if someone said make me an offer, he would say 20.00 bucks. and then say what do you want for it. i try to haggle even if for a few dollars here. it helps some.

Understand 100% where the OP is coming from. Listed a car for sale at 13K FIRM... got told that it was an 8K car and best he could do from someone on this site (known flipper)...

My response. I said firm on the price, please don't ever contact me again if you want something I'm selling. LOL

Also got, you want 10K, it's going to cost me 3K to get it to my place, take 6K? Not my fault you live in the wrong spot to buy my car. Sold the car for 10K a few weeks later.

It's the TV BS *** monkey crap. Want 10K, step in at 5K even if it's worth 15.

I get that part, I’d buy stuff from you!

I'm not that guy to play guessing games in regards to selling prices..... Now the only time I will go down that dirty road is if I inquire about an item that is not advertised for sale but they will entertain offers. But that's apples and oranges.

It's been like this all along. It's just a little different now with people having much more exposure when selling an item. If they think what they're are selling is a pot of Gold look out. Chances are you are not going to like the results....

It has been said here before:

How can I negotiate against myself?

The bottom dollar/best price/best offer is a bs game "adults" play. And then there is the whining about shipping a part as if the seller has stock in UPS. I feel your pain.

I hate when you basically are giving something away and they still want more. I had a lumina listed on Facebook for 500 bucks it needed some work but was a fixable car thst would make a good everyday driver. A guy messaged me and asked if I'd take 250 I told him yes. I made it perfectly clear that he could not drive it home he would need a trailer. It had no brakes needed the gas drained and needed a new battery its one of those stupid side post and I don't have one. So the guy shows up with no trailer after I told him and he offers me 175 I was like yea sure but how you gonna get it home? Then he asked me if I would fix it for him and he would come back and get it when it's done. Haha I asked him to leave and not come back. Why in the hell would I sell a car for 175 and then pay to repair it. If I was gonna fix it I would fix it and drive it. So I cut all the sheet metal out of it sold the catalytic converter for 50 and then scraped the car for 100. So I got my 150 bucks plus enough sheet metal to redo my floors and trunk plus some extra that I still have .

I recently sold an LD340 on Ebay for $310 and paid $40 in sellers fees. That's the last time I sell anything on that bullshit site.

It's worse now. They used to chage a selling fee on the total sale price only; now it is on shipping also. So If you listed the part for $310 + $40 shipping, you are paying 13% on $350!

What I can’t stand, if somebody wants an item I’m selling and want me to hold it so they can resell it. After six weeks or so when they can’t resell it they say that they don’t want it anymore.
