You haven't had grits 'till you go to the low country and have grits where the right kind is cooked the right way. Yellow stone ground grits sautéed in butter just enough to start a slight popcorn flavor, then milk or cream. Makes Quaker Quick Grits a sad example of grits. Youtube can show you shrimp and grits, etc...
Oh, polenta, my mother loves it

So serious question here for the taciturn one (DD) I am a rare transplant from the South up here in the North chasing money in the Dakotas (have hood will travel) So being from the South I darn sure know what we call Yankees that move down or stay in the South but what on earth do you Northerners call a Southerner that moves up here? Just curious?

Yep, Damn Yankees my parents were from upstate NY and Connecticut both moved to Florida in the mid to late 50s.

In 2000 I did a Military transfer from Arkansas to Connecticut. We stopped at a gas station to ask where a fast food joint was and the the lady said "you're not from around here are you " No, we're from Arkansas. "Oh, so you're hicks!"

I had to drag my wife (who was born and raised in Arkansas) out the door before she sinned, lol.
I would like to state most are not that rude, but we can be impatient at times

Visa? That would mean Legal entry.... way to difficult

How true I have a niece living in China who is an American citizen my brother is decease, and her mother is Chinese. My brother spent a lot of money trying to get her an immigration visa and a green card to no avail. With the current world situation, I cannot even communicate with them for fear of putting them in danger.

Man, that sucks..

I'm originally from Pennsylvania so I'm kinda impatient, lol. We ended up having a great 3 years in Torrington, CT.

A couple months after moving it was snowing...probably 6" on the ground and I see a U-Haul unloading at a house across the street. So I walk over and ask "can I help you unload?" I got a strange look and a "huh" they couldn't believe I wanted to help. We turned out to become good friends and laugh at it.

Donut, don’t
A while ago we were on vacation with some friends in Florida and we had picked up a few dozen donuts for breakfast

My wife showed my little girl (who was was 5 or 6 at the time) the box and asked if she wanted a donut for breakfast

And my little girl went "not donut"

So my wife says, ok what do you want then?

And the girl goes "not donut"

Yes yes, I know, not donut but what then ?

And the little girl goes "not donut"

Now, at this point, my wife got annoyed and said "I know, not donut, but what do you want for breakfast child?"

And my little girl reached reached into the box, and said "nut donut"

Funny, I had the same thing happen to me when I moved to Texas, she said where you from, I said Calif., she damn yankee!
So I solved the problem back to Calif, everyone is welcome here.

Made a New Orleans favorite today to eat after a nice deer roast dinner.
Also ground some fresh French Roast coffee

Should have called her a Texican, that would have gotten the discussion going

Oh, Beigheit
My wife worked at Cafe Du Monde as management in the past.
I think she could make them in her sleep.
But you get burned out on them.
We just started making and eatting them again
