I looks like the h/l bucket may have green anti rust sprayed on it. I ran into some years ago on a car that came from the rust belt up north.

I don’t believe that is factory. How long has this guy owned the car?

when reading things or talking to people that clam “all factory”. Then it turns out they didn’t get the car until it was 30 years old.

Yes it was a car from verdun city not far from montreal, huge rust belt area here....and its just funny because its like everywhere...very low mileage car, gas pedal , seats and even cluster shows that it was a very low mileage car. Maybe it was the factory paint but no clear coat ?

He had it for decades , him and his brother started the restoration on the other valiant ( bought 2 for a good price ) the one primer , that i might sell to my uncle and little cousins .

There was no clear coat used anywhere on these cars, including the exterior. Single stage paint. Clear coat wasn’t used in production until the mid eighties, and not used on all colors until the early nineties.

Do you have a fender tag? It will tell you the color. If not, turtle wax color back will remove any paint oxidation and give you a better idea of its true color.

Unfortunately no fender tag , but was a 273 v8 car , basic options ; either f3 or f5 i think, factory paint on it.

First let me say I am by no means an expert on factory original stuff. I do seem to remember that Canadian built cars had some different anti-corrosion stuff that was done or maybe a different anti-corrosion option than some of the US built stuff? Maybe @Alaskan_TA would know?

I did a bunch of reading on it because my ‘71 GT was a Windsor car. I didn’t have anything like that on my car, but it’s later too. The biggest thing I took away from it was that some of the factories had different practices and interpretations of things. Like the Los Angeles built cars not usually having build sheets left in them (“no trash” policy at the factory apparently).

Looks very F5 green to me, which I like a lot. Looks like a good solid car, to boot.

I have seen hundreds of cars and never seen headlight buckets that were anything but galvanized. I dont even recall seeing overspray of any sort on them so that would indicate they were installed after paint.

Maybe the guy was Motor-T in the service and just blasted everything on it olive drab or zinc chromate green? we had Korea vintage water tanks on trailers out in the field and the wheels were still olive green and very little rust on them. The tires were rotted off but the rims were still good! They just kept filling those tanks for the exercises out there with no running water.

I just find it weird sincerely , because all the others parts in boxes are like that , to the bumper brackets @ the headlight buckets and all..we will never know , but indeed maybe it was a rust proofing paint .

like I said rub and area of original paint with turtle wax color back or rubbing compound and the true color will be apparent.

My old man used that stuff on everything. He worked on the navy base. I thought they banned it, or it least the original version of it but I do see you can still buy it in spray cans. Yes it works great at preventing rust. The navy even used it on aluminum panels.
